Pakistan To Upgrade C-130 Fleet, US DSCA Tells Congress

Why not invest in new 21 Y-9 from China....

For three reasons:

1- Y-9 is a new platform and just got into production recently
2- C130 is perhaps the most robust and versatile transporter out there and PAF has infrastructure and facilities in place to handle them.
3-If you actually look at it, Pakistan is not a huge country, doesn't need massive airlift capabilities. A lot of the stuff can be transported by rail and road in a short span of time, other than of course valuable/high value cargo.

Most of the time the transport fleet in Pakistan is busy dealing with natural calamities.

This is what we need Y-20

C130 is a stable and reliable plane and upgrading the existing fleet will boost PAF's transport and surveillance capabilities.

There is a limit to all the upgrades , you have to upgrade yourself or be obsolete in world , sadly that is how things work
If peopel had upgraded themselves , people like Maya, Inca or other civilization had not disappeared when people showed up with guns and gun powder etc

Engine management will improve fuel efficiency. USAF is also upgrading their engine "non J" fleet, and they are expecting to save $2 billion in fuel costs every year.

PAF doesn't need more transport aircraft. we have enough for our needs. What we need is a replacement, the most sensible option is C-130J. We know the airplane inside out, maintenance operation would become much easier.

Well We need more transport planes considering our Total Armed forces are over 500,000+ soldiers so moving these assets needs great resources , and specially food and water in time of war etc needs Transport planes.

10-12 Trasnport planes are note enough to feed , 500,000+ strong forces

Pakistan Army:
550,000 active troops
500,000 reserves

Total Transport planes for Pakistan = 18
Simple Math , if 1 Million strong force needs food , ammunition and water
Can you do that with 18 Transport planes ?

Also from Transporation of troops from one Province to another if we need to move 10,000 soldiers we need greater number of Transport planes

Pakistan really needs 40 Transport planes , and newer version then C130

It is very hard for Pakistan to purchase new air crafts due to our poor economy that's why we are relying what we are getting free of cost

our wish list is very large but we are managing it by our limited resources....

Why not PAF bought Jordan C-130 as well. As they might want to buy 11 Chinese Y-9s along with 7 C-925 which they already have...

But I think PAF can easily get ex-C-130s from KSA, UAE, Oman, Yemen and Jordan easily as Yemen and Jordan would easily gain Y-9 Transport from China and C-295s. Where as KSA, UAE and Oman might go for C-130Js which they are already acquiring.

Also same for Libya and Algeria as well.

As Pakistan and Turkey can buy the older version of C-130s from:
KSA
UAE
Libya
Algeria
Tunisia
Morocco
Yemen
Oman
Jordan

Pakistan is doing the right thing by asking the US to help upgrade our C-13 fleet , perhaps trying to some more in the near future would be wise but as far as right now PAF is happy with Qty amount of our C-130 .

Moving them where? They are in or near the positions they would be required. A transport plane is a transport plane, nothing more, nothing less.

There is no need to waste money on buying newer ones if older ones are safe to fly and can be upgraded /service life extended at minimal cost.

According to this if u look: List of aircraft of the Pakistan Air Force - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pakistan operates 18 C-130 Hercules. Pakistan operates 18 of these versions for past 50+ years:

C-130B - 5
C-130E - 5
C-130E (ex-Australian) - 2
C-130 H - 6

Anyone knows which versions are to be upgraded too, any engine management upgrade and what standards ?

Frankly am damn scared if these Lockheed Martin PAF C-130s start crashing...like the Indian new ones !!!

C-130H are still flying around the world. So its not obsolete as some members say here. With upgrades to previous versions, the fleet can service several more years.

I dont think Pakistan ever bought brand new C-130s. The newer C-130H also came from US Excess Defense Article (EDA) program. Correct me if I m wrong or not stated the facts correctly.

PAF and TuAF can easily acquire C-130s from KSA, UAE, Oman, Yemen, Jordan and from other Middle Eastern countries and upgrade it having different versions of it for different roles.
