Pakistan to pay $11.6m in compensation to Chinese families

Does anyone know if we compensate our own citizens who have been victims of terror, if so how much?

A grand total of 0

But this is what we are paying this government our taxes for, to spend on CHinese

Compensation standards of the Chinese govt:

In short, the Chinese govt will compensate the deceased for 20 years' income and funeral expenses.
According to the standards of the Chinese govt, the families of these dead people should receive compensation of RMB 4-5 million (US $600k-800k) per person. At first, I expected that the families of 10 dead people should receive compensation of US $6 million to US $8 million.
10 people were dead and 26 injured. $11.6 million. The amount of compensation is higher than I expected. The reason may be that there are high paid senior technicians among the dead or many of the injured were disabled.

When will China compensate the Uighurs? So many have been genocided that compensating them will bankrupt China

There's a saying in our part of the world, roughly translated.... Rather than habitually ranting out of tune, it's better to keep your trap shut.!!!
Once there was an attempted terrorist attack on Chinese Consulate in which two Pakistani policemen on duty were killed.... Common Chinese folks back in China were so overwhelmed by the police men's sacrifice that they personally did a collection as an award /compensation for them.... Similarly the business community of Sialkot collected over 100000 Dollars for the deceased Sri Lankan National and his next of kin to receive his pension.
Paying a compensation is not a penalty but a way of showing gratitude.

Don't just blindly try to cover up everything....I know when a compensation is paid out of gratitude vs when it is being asked as a Must do....

Chinese have asked your government to pay....it's a pre-condition, before any of the work can be resumed......so their is nothing out of "gratitude" there. also on business community of Sialkot raising $100K thing....can you share any link of this news.....was the amount actually been paid to the kin of the victim?

China will certainly compensate the families of the deceased, and the compensation figures have long been stipulated. The only difference is whether the money is paid by the Chinese govt or the Pakistani govt.
This money is nothing to the Chinese govt. But I don't know if you can understand that if the Chinese govt pays for it, no Chinese workers will believe that the Pakistani govt will protect their safety, and no Chinese enterprises will believe that the Pakistani govt will protect their interests.
Let me give you an example. If your colleague is shot by a gangster in a police area, but the policeman is not affected. Will you still believe that the policeman is willing to protect you? Or will you choose to pay protection fees to the gangs or resign? You know that your life will not affect the interests of this policeman.
China is a country with an accountability system. The Chinese only believe in the binding of interests and responsibilities, not verbal commitments.

Son you want Pakistani government to realise their accountability and hence asking for compensation?..... Now knowing the economic condition of your iron brother, why can't you just pay to the families of the victim and charge it from your iron brother later? Why it is a pre-condition to start any work?

Let me add on to your statement "China is a country with an accountability system"....Yet you sign dodgy contracts with other nations which are laced in secrecy, so that accountability could not be ascertained.....CPEC is another example.

Instead of your habitual sarcasm and hate filled tantrums, why not make yourself a little useful and do some search before opening the Champagne.

“The ECC after deliberation and considering the depth of our relationship with China approved the proposal of payment of US dollar 11.6 million as a goodwill gesture on government level,” read the official statement.''

Why don't you open your eyes to the fact I and you already know and admit it, rather than constantly live in denial. Why did they stop work after the attack and why resuming now after your cabinet approved the compensation?

Come on Windy, of course our government is going to use such words as "Goodwill". I reckon it was arm twisting by the Chinese. And I don't like it at all as $11 Million is a lot of money for Pakistan.

Affectees can demand that, But why did the issue happen ? It’s the failure of IEAs and Military to wipe out such elements despite being paid a hefty budget every year and busy rolling them in golf clubs and what not.

Pakistan as a nation is disposable to most of the Pakistanis residing here.

So called arm twisting probably but in the form that is very reasonable.

China suffered a terrorist attack on Pakistani soil which was done by non-Chinese so it's not like we wanted this to happen. It happened because Pakistan failed to provide the necessary protection to those people.

As for Adonis, the work was stopped before compensation paid allegedly well even if that is entirely true isn't that to be expected? The compensation paid symbolizes Pakistan government's acknowledgement they require some changes to operation so security can be improved. It also shows to the people working there that compensation was paid. I don't think many people working there would feel okay to continue work before compensation was paid.

No doubt about it, but Chinese knew perfectly well the ground realities of Pakistan, and india' involvement in this terrorism. Frankly, THE CHINESE HAVE CLOSED THEIR EYES AS FAR AS INDIAN TERRORISM IN PAKSITAN IS CONCERNED. The question I have is that when the Chinese knew that it was the Indians who have killed their engineers in Pakistan, then why they have not retaliated and not fired a few missile towards india? Why are they keeping quiet like cowards??

Shouldn’t the contractor’s insurance firm have done the payout and not the State of Pakistan?

The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has approved compensations for the families of the Chinese workers killed and wounded in the Dasu dam attack in July 2021.

The ECC on Friday met under Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin and approved an amount of $11.6 million to be given to the families of the Chinese workers who came under a terror attack on July 14.

According to the reports at the time that attack left 12 people including 9 Chinese worker dead. Another Chinese national died later while a total of 26 Chinese workers were injured.

China temporarily stopped work on the Dasu Dam project.

Pakistan earlier this week decided to compensate the families of the 36 Chinese nationals, aiming to remove a major irritant in bilateral relations.

The Dasu Hydropower Project is funded by the World Bank and does not fall in the scope of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

The ECC also decided to abolish regulatory duty of 45% on the import of Pine nuts (chilgoza) from Afghanistan.

The meeting has made a key decision of approving trade of some items between Pakistan and Afghanistan in local currency.

The committee also decided to take third party assistance to monitor Kamyab Jawan program and approved a grant of Rs4 billion to the FBR too.

The approval of Rs5 billion to conduct census was also included on the agenda.

This simple arm twisting and squeezing a friends resources which is already in financial problems .

The Chinese government and companies also pay for the compensation.
Companies get insurance cover for employees against accidents .this is simple arm twisting of a poor friend who depends on you .

I guess it's a gesture to show how much Pakistani government cares about the lives of Chinese engineers and workers working in Pakistan, as where the money will come from is still undisclosed, China will surely compensate this goodwill gesture.

.
Couple of questions. No trolling.

a. Is it in any agreement, that the compensation will be as per Chinese standards. If yes, why did Pakistan agree to this kind of arrangement and is it normal?

b. If no, why does Pakistan have to bear this. They should be paid as per Pakistani standards and the Chinese government should compensate for them with the remaining part. Why? Nobody forced the Chinese worked to work in Pakistan. They accepted the risk.

c. Are these kind of compensation packages normal. Any other instance of such?

Found the company was Xi Pings personal company(some past connection), so Beijing was jolted by this..

If it's true, you've found a big secret. The discipline of the CCP prohibits civil servants in the party from doing business.
If Xi is confirmed to have a private company, Xi will not be eligible for re-election.
