The White House said on Saturday that it is confident Pakistan is aware of its responsibilities pertaining to the safety and security of its nuclear weapons.

“We continue to be confident that the government of Pakistan is aware of those responsibilities and takes those responsibilities quite seriously,” White House spokesperson Josh Earnest said at a news conference.

The remark came a day after two leading US think tanks claimed in a report that Pakistan would have more than 350 nuclear weapons in a decade, which means that the country would have the third largest stock piles of nuclear weapons after the US and Russia.

Commenting on the report, Earnest said, “I did see the report. I don’t have an official administration assessment to share with you. I would say there a couple things that come to mind.”

The spokesperson went on to add that responsibility for nuclear stockpile remains with all countries who have secureda nuclear stockpile.

“This applies not just to Pakistan but to countries around the world that have a nuclear stockpile – they have a responsibility for securing that nuclear stockpile.”

He further added that President Barack Obama had set a long-term goal of a world free of nuclear weapons. A year after becoming president, Obama had hosted the first nuclear security summit in Washington to galvanise world leaders to achieve this goal.

“The President’s made clear that he has a long-term goal of a world without nuclear weapons. And the President has convened, you know, every couple of years at an international summit to try to counter nuclear proliferation. And that continues to be a top foreign policy priority of his. I believe we’re cited to have a next meeting next year. So the president is certainly looking forward to that,” Earnest said.

The US president has also announced to host the fourth and last Nuclear Security Summit of his presidency March-April of next year. Many world leaders including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to attend the summit.

Soon after the report was released in Washington, the US State Department had cautioned Pakistan from flaunting its nuclear status as it would worsen tensions between India and Pakistan.

US wants Pakistan not to take it seriously, so they can shift it out of Pakistan.

US should learn from Pakistan how to secure its Nuclear arsenal. We would gladly help uncle sam.

Shift it out whaaaaat ?

Yeah this only could happen in GI Joe or other Hollywood movies. They can't do shit in real life, just like Indians.

True that, that's what I am sayin. :pakistan: Plus we are gonna be the third largest Nuclear arsenal, so its time to piss them off.

I'm not impressed with this new development of trying to become 3rd Largest nuclear weapons state. It's a burden we should not opt for. Ever wondered why China with it's mamoth economy only have 200-250 Nukes? Yeah, Building them maybe is an easy task but maintaining it is really difficult & hella costly & a bad sign for our already burden economy. IMO 100-120 nuke is enough for a little nation like us. Just think about it in a practical way..

Agreed but as its going for Pakistan, confronting India, MI-6, CIA, Moosad etc .. there are hell more countries looking to threaten Pakistan so there must be a nightmare prepared for them.

China has the biggest population and army so it can easily fight these countries, while we can't so keeping some nukes to keep your enemies away ain't a bad option at all (My Opinion).

Our biggest weapon should be Economy against the west just like China. You won't see West threaten China for a war b/c if there is a War then everybody will go down with it even if it's a conventional war. Just look at stock market fiasco, China down=World down. China up=things back to normal.

This is what we should work hard on with our friend China & not just focus on investing in destructive weapons. Economy can be a weapon too & the most powerful one. Example in case is, India can't afford a war with Pakistan b/c it will take her back to point 0. Unlike India, Pakistan has nothing to loose.
