Pakistan takes deliveries of 3 SAAB-2000 Aircraft

When I said it was my favorite - I meant personal preference. I've actually been inside the Turkish Air Force Boeing AEW&C during the Dubai Air Show (-courtesy of Boeing Defense & Aerospace).

When you say it is not suitable..., what exactly do you mean?

a) Its price tag.
b) Having to deal with the US
c) Operational Reasons that may not fulfill PAF's needs.

a) Yes its bloody expensive especially when its a passenger Jet that will create its own serviceability headache! Pakistani choice of Saab2000 based system makes complete sense its best bang for Buck.
b)Yes, the yanks or as I call it the serpents in the pale house are NEVER reliable and they are faaar to invested emotionally with india who does her menstruation cycle of randi rona in front of them. Then taking into account the many past events that have hampered Pakistan defence because we use their equipment.
c) Yes looking at the geography of Pakistan and the proximity with india or the regional boundaries such a large craft is not suitable. This is a NATO preferential system and only select few nations have it those who are in their good books because the nations using them fulfil their strategic needs too.

1. Technically, they are all Commercial/Corporate Aircrafts converted special missions. As far as a/c parts & maintenance are concerned - trust me, Pakistan has a great deal of knowledge of the B737 & parts are scattered everyone around the World (especially China).

2 & 3) I don't think the US would have an issue selling us AWAC/AEW&C, Transport planes or Refueling Tankers. They are tough on us when it comes to Fighters...

But yeah, I get your point.

Although I do differ with you on the on the Regional Boundaries bit with India.

ZDK:
Length: 34.02 m (111ft 8 in)
Wingspan: 38.0 m (124ft 8 in)
Cruise Speed: 550 km/h (342 mph)

B737 (E7):
Length: 33.6 m (110ft 4 in)
Wingspan: 35.8 m (117ft 2 in) - because they're -800 Wings
Cruise Speed: 853 km/h (530 mph)

Though they are similar in size, the ZDK is slightly bigger & a whole lot slower which makes it - an easier Target.

The key is USA (especially the congress) is now emotionally vested in india which means its going to be more difficult to sustain any platforms which india complains about!..you saw how india successfully thrawted f16 salw of just 8 aircrafts .

1. The Turkish planes were delayed because some parts of the plane were made in israel! As it has a radar on it I highly doubt that you can just service the craft. Then parts are made for it in israel surely wont go down well!! China? That is the wrong answer.

2/3. Yea Pakistan is de-americanising its military for a purpose. Been bitten far to many times.

Indeed. I say its good. May their matrimony be prosperous.

I think it was 2 new and 2 upgrades (for the Saab 340):

The United Arab Emirates Air Force is to upgrade its two Saab Erieye airborne early-warning aircraft and will buy two new multi-mission systems on a Bombardier Global 6000 platform in a deal valued by the customer at $1.27 billion.

The contract, which was announced yesterday and signed during the first day of the Dubai Airshow, will see Saab fit new sensors and mission systems to the UAE's two Saab 340-based Erieyes, while the sensor suite for the Global 6000s will be different. No firm timetable has been revealed, but Abdulla al Hashimi, executive director for UAE's military communications at the Airshow, said he expects the new aircraft to be delivered "within two years, maybe."

Saab delivers radar equipment to Pakistan Air Force
Gabriel Dominguez, London - Jane's Defence Weekly
15 April 2019

Defence and security company Saab delivered three sets of radar equipment to Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Base Nur Khan (Chaklala) on 9 April, according to the information provided by the Pakistan Import Export Trade Database.

Although not specified by the website, it is possible that the Swedish company delivered three Erieye airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) radar systems for fitment onto an equal number of twin-engined Saab 2000 aircraft that were handed over to Pakistan's Directorate General Defence Purchase in 2018, according to aircraft sales specialist Skyworld Aviation.

In a 26 June statement Skyworld Aviation announced that the aircraft had previously been in operation with Sweden-based BRA Braathens Regional Airlines.

Oh ho Jane you are a bit late on this one!:lol::lol::lol:

If PAC is going to integrate AWE&C module on those SAAB-2000s, it is more awesome news. It will only add to the goodwill and knowledge base of PAC which is going to eventually benefit other projects in future.

Very good now we have to increase our force mussle because I feel india will come back again with theior bloody nose new jets r required to replace legacy jets

I am pretty sure the PAF will make something very specially important out of these birds!!! I just wish some Turkish systems make their way to have a seat inside them...
These are erieye systems I don't think sweds will let us incorporate turkish tech in it

So indeed PAF increased its western awecs to 6?

This is big boast...number is now equal to original number intended in 2000s

Let see how we do on f16s front
Zia F16s will come if bunders from east didn't buy two option for LM either court Pak or shut plant after Royal moraco order I believe they will court Pak if PAF wax them With good number in purchase LM will sooth every one at capital Hill or Trump administration

.
Good work
