Recently released data by SIPRI indicates Pakistan's HIT has stopped the production of Panter 155 mm towed howitzer by the end of 2013. No unit has been manufactured in 2014. Earlier, some 20 units were being produced every year.

Aselsan is upgrading Panter towed howitzers at present. After upgrading, It is going to be much more effective/lower weight howitzer system. Maybe, Pakistan agreed to wait complation of upgradings to apply Pakistani produced Panters ?

The Firtina SP guns look very nice. I heard Turkey is going to abandon Panter for an all SP artillery force. Anybody can verify that?

Modern artillery need to be mobile like the M109/M110/MRL122/SH1 in service, the days towed guns are gone! You only need some for strategic mobility, becouse the SPs have much higher tactical mobility. So the towed ones need to be used only by light forces (Rapid Deployment/Mountain/Special Forces/Airborne/Light Infantry). Pak Artillery is very mobile, the towed guns are concentrated in the Holding Corps and Reserve Corps Infantry Divisions and Corps Artillery Brigades. The future is to replace them by new mobile (Holding) or light (Reserve) 155mm guns.

I believe that HIT can now build a light weight variant on its own.

who knows our defence cooperation is strong... so i wouldnt be surprised...

Reason is simple. Pakistan is standardizing their artillery to 135mm

155mm not 35.

Production of T155 Panter towed howitzers are stopped at number of 41, While continuing to produce Firtina SPH. The number of produced Firtinas exceeds 300 at present. The Turkish land forces prefer mobility against towed systems. At present, Panter howitzers are in modernization phase which mechanical and hydrolic systems will be redesigned and Gun/Firing systems will be more electronically controlled. To enhance mobility/effectiveness of Firtina, Munition resupply vehicle called Poyraz is developed. At present, Winter trials of Poyraz passed succesfully and Production order is given for them as well.

Maybe because it met the requirement that Pakistan wanted, and now wants to evaluate another option?

Great stuff!

Is Firtina a totally Turkish design and production? It looks similar to the German SPH. I dont know its name but I have seen its pictures. I think its PzH 2000.
