ISLAMABAD, June 5 (Xinhua) -- The ongoing fuel shortage, especially of gasoline, has caused serious difficulties to businesses as well as citizens for the fifth consecutive day across Pakistan, local media reported on Friday.

Video footages telecasted at local Urdu TV channels showed long queues of motor riders at fuel stations to fill their vehicles' tanks.

According to local media reports, the fuel shortage started because of the stopped or minimized supplies to fuel stations by the private oil companies after the central government reduced fuel prices on Monday.

Majority of the fuel stations across the country, including in the major cities of Karachi, Lahore, Quetta, Faisalabad and Rawalpindi, have been closed by the owners to avoid people's rage.

The fuel stations, which have the stock of petrol, have increased the price of the commodity by more than 100 percent, the reports said.

Earlier on Thursday, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), the regulator of the oil business in the country, issued a statement saying that there was no shortage of gasoline and the country's oil stocks are sufficient and it is trying to know the reason behind the slow supplies.

The regulator also issued show-cause notices to oil marketing companies seeking explanations and reasons for the petrol shortage at the fuel stations.

However, the fuel stations association and the public rejected the claims made by OGRA and said that majority of the fuel stations have no gasoline at all and oil companies are running short of the stocks.

The Competition Commission of Pakistan has initiated an inquiry into the issue saying that the sudden shortage of fuel across the country at a time when the government has reduced prices and low demand due to the COVID-19 pandemic raised suspicion that artificial shortage might have been created.

Guys how true is this? and why is the GOVT not stepping in to do something about it?

It’s most unfortunate that a country trying to push forward should have issues with distribution of fuel - does seem to be only 2 suppliers.

Now tell me what’s the obsession with the OP. Yet again a global child internet warrior Google’s to find anything bad on Pakistan and then posts it on here then sits back to swim in his contentment of success.

You would think a child that has been on here for so long perhaps may mature but alas no. Some Indians can’t. They see bile rape poverty race and religious bigots and sh1t on their doorstep - so gratify by deflection to dissect the issues in the nation that is blessed not to be part of the sh1thole he lives in.

Enjoy your day little boy and grow a pair of balls and admit the obsession

Govt must provide uninterruptable supply of oil to business and companies. If there is remaining oil, sell it to public. Let them stand in the line , else they can use bicycle.

Its true, there is huge shortage of petrol. Mamy petrol stations are not even giving any petrol. Few PSO petrol pumps are giving 100 rupees per bike while they open it for few hours only.
I have not seen any such thing from personal experience and I didn't hear anyone say that either.

Pakistan fuel prices are lowest in region and 1/3 of india
You can have the lowest price in the whole world, but if there is none available, what's the point of those low prices?

Guys how true is this? and why is the GOVT not stepping in to do something about it?
three reasons
1. sudden high demand due to reopening
2. refineries being closed and just reopening due to covid-19
3. govt lax /non enforcement of rules regarding 30 days storage for distribution companies

no.3 is important..let see whetehr the govt cancels their agreement, fine them or do the regular i.e get some kick backs

why?

its just temporary for couple of days in specific regions not all over the country
