Abdur Rehman, the Pakistan left-arm spinner who destroyed England in Abu Dhabi this year, is likely to be suspended after testing positive for a recreational drug when he was playing for Somerset in the summer.

The 32-year-old, who took nine wickets in an innings and 14 in the match in his last Somerset appearance against Worcestershire last month, may be ruled out of Pakistan's tour of South Africa in early 2013 if he receives a lengthy ban.

The England and Wales Cricket Board refused to confirm a report that it has already informed its Pakistani counterparts. But confirmation of Rehman's positive test is expected within the next 48 hours.

The length of the suspension will be determined under the World Anti-Doping Agency code, to which the ECB and all counties are signatories. Rehman played a total of four Championship matches for Somerset last season, taking 27 wickets at an average of less than 15.

He has made a total of 17 Test appearances, 25 in one-day internationals and seven in international Twenty20 matches, although he was omitted from the Pakistan squad for the World T20 in Sri Lanka.

Leave the man alone, all he did was smoke some pot. I mean who doesn't like getting high? It's not like he's using drugs to enhance his performance.
