Pakistan signs trade deals with South Korea
Jung Hong-won holds talks with Sharif
Pakistani and South Korean officials signed Memoranda of Understanding for cooperation in trade, industries and energy sectors here on Monday in the presence of the prime ministers of the two countries.
Earlier, South Korean Prime Minister Jung Hong-won and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif held talks on the second day of a four-day visit by the Korean leader.
Officials said Prime Minister Sharif invited his Korean counterpart to prepare a Country Partnership Strategy between the two countries for the next three years.
Sharif told the Korean leader, who arrived here on Sunday, that Pakistan offers huge opportunities for Korean companies in the energy sector, including hydro, wind, solar, biomass and coal-based projects.
He said Pakistan was happy to witness the progress and development of South Korea and “we are interested to learn from the Korean experience.”
The Pakistani chief executive said it was heartening to note that trade between the two countries has reached $1.6 billion (Dh5.8 billion) in 2012.
Pakistan has proposed a comprehensive Free Trade Agreement that covers trade, investment and services, so that trade between the two countries could be further enhanced, he said.
