Pakistan secretly carried out cold test of nuclear device on Oct 6, 1984

I Salute all our leaders before 1988. Their work is nothing short of a mircal, if it wasn't for them we wouldn't be where we are now, Definitely not as powerful as we are now. We seriously need to stop bashing our past leaders for what ever minor flaw they had or the minor mistakes they made. Over all in my books they did a great job!

According to wikipedia:

"Sub-critical (or cold) tests are any type of tests involving nuclear materials and possibly high-explosives (like those mentioned above) that purposely result in no yield. The name refers to the lack of creation of a critical mass of fissile material. They are the only type of tests allowed under the interpretation of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty tacitly agreed to by the major atomic powers.[5][6] Sub-critical tests continue to be performed by the United States, Russia, and the People's Republic of China, at least."

Could someone please explain that if a cold test has no yield and lacks critical mass, how then can one be sure that a device only tested by this method would create a full nuclear explosion if needed? hope that made sense

we need two things for nuclear reaction, neutron bombarding and radioactive material of critical mass, ie the least required mass to create reaction , so a device can be checked by neutron bombarding in the absence of nuclear material,

Two great Pakistani nuclear physicists Dr. Ishfaq and Mr. Munir are credited among the persons who are called as "father of the Pakistan's atomic bomb project.

L to R: Mr. Munir Ahmad Khan, Chairman PAEC, Mr. Ghulam Ishaq Khan, then Minister for Finance and Coordination, General K.M. Arif, Vice Chief of Army Staff, and Dr. Ishfaq Ahmad, Member (Technical), PAEC. Circa 1983-84. Site: Kirana Hills during the cold tests.
