Pakistan’s nuclear budget never exceeded $25m: Dr Qadeer

I'm a big fan of AQ Khan's service to Pakistan, however, the amount stated by him seems crazy low. During the 80's and 90's, security of AQ Khans house in E7 + his protocol cars + etc's, I bet cost more than USD25M per annum.

lately he has been giving all the money matter news about Pakistan's Atomic endeavors, make me feel like he was an accountant more than a scientist.

And when did AQ Khan got admitted to finance ministry? and how on earth would he know everything about Nuclear Program (even if one hypothetically believes Daddy of Bomb propaganda).

A man who gains fame on pure lies fed by Zia regime would not hesitate to lie again even for little attention he would get from them.

In the words of Samar Mubarakmand " We only invited him (AQ Khan) so that he could know how a nuclear bomb detonates"

But those blindly trusting Zia's Regimes lies consider him "Papa of Bomb" (at the cost of acknowledgement of many deserving Pakistani scientists) would believe everything he says, alas!

$25 million even in late 1980s was not "peanuts"

nuclear scientists in Pakistan and those that "made this all work" did it out of nationalism; not for financial reward and large salaries

it is no secret anymore that whatever were the costs --- the program of PAEC and KRL had blank cheques so money was never an issue

Sir he was their he started the program stop distorting the facts he was the started Sir not pop up at the end and claimed all the credit he was part of it from the day one and I know his field is metallurgical Sir but he initiated the program and developed his team and they all worked together to from Nuclear Program

Senor,

He was not there---I have first hand knowledge of that---thru my uncle when lived with him---I met many of the pioneer pak nuc scientists. Actually there was no mention of AQ's name for the longest---. I me Dr Bashir Mahmood and auntie Kaifi his wife---Dr Mubarakmand---I also met many a scientists in the early 70's---I don't even remember their names or their faces---but there was no mention of AQ Khan's name at that time---.
AQ Khan was a strategic diversion----but AQ made a fool of the illeterate public and created a god image of himself.

History judges him perhaps as someone who may have gotten a bit too greedy (and political)

But for the work that he did accomplish I'm grateful. Whatever was done wrong - I don't think it would be repeated so lets move on.

Hi,

They did not do it out of nationalism---they may say so----they did it just to show that they could---They were the COWBOYS of PAKISTAN. They just wanted to show the world what they could do---. My uncle was amongst the 100 scientists of the world of who is who in 1968 or 1969---he got offered a job by the israelis---at that time he was in the u s---he got scared and took a flight back to pakistan----.
These scientists were on a similiar pleateau to that of what the german scientists were to the u s after ww2---. What does a beaver do---it builds dams---every oppurtunity that it gets----what does a nuclear scientist does---he wants to build a nuclear weapon---nationalism is less of a thing---just the EGO OF DOING IT SUPERCEDES EVERYTHING else----.

The success of doing it is the APHRODISIAC that these cowboys look forward to----people may call it whatever they want to, to satisfy their nationalistic beliefs.

The "smuggling" was a gigantic hogwash, nothing of the sort happened from any of the specialist facilities. The only smuggling going on was couple of "measurement" instruments, few here, few there, that were being imported from abroad, nothing EVER left for outside. There was nothing illegal on "our" part, as we were not signatories to NPT, so were never culpable for any wrong-doing. Want to blame someone? Blame the ones who were signatories and exporting under the radar! Besides, you know very well the definition of "dual usage items", if you go by that definition, then even my ****/sh*t can be made to look as it has some sort of relation to a future nuclear program, you know what I am saying.....

The story was like this: We had an excellent "procurement" network for these small insignificant items, they, in the West couldn't detect it, they pushed and cornered Mushy, the bastard caved-in and gave AQ as a trophy (khwa-m-khwa). The network was ours for sure, however, it was IMPORTING stuff, very insignificant stuff - mind you not breaking any treaty!

Mushy never gave him---it was Benazir who promised to give him away---her interview must be somewhere on the web---was she at HARVARD university----in 2006---2007---. She sold pakistan---and pakistanis cheered her on.

Hi,

It's one possible theory (I suppose)

I think shrugging off better pay for national pride and honour is doing something out of nationalism

Thanks to your uncle also for his service.

In 1998 we DID show the world. Not just the hindustanis next door to the east

lately he has been giving all the money matter news about Pakistan's Atomic endeavors, make me feel like he was an accountant more than a scientist.

He was a brilliant organizer and knew what components were needed and he knew how to source them (he couldn't have operated without the ISI helping him setup front companies)

I guess also at the time he was known to have a charisma so he never raised suspicion until later on.

Who cares how much it cost or who was the one responsible for it. Lets stop fighting each other about who was actually involvesd and who was not.
The bomb is made. Period.

All our scientists Zindabad.

Pakistan Zindabad.
