I Find Zardari always smiling in television. Mushraf is also seen in jolly mood most of the time. And who can forget the smiling face of Imran Khan and Nawaz sharif.

Islamabad

Pakistan, Croatia and Russia have topped a list of countries where people sitting behind shop and office counters have a surly attitude and find it difficult to smile.

Thats because if they smile, someone will then ask them daant kyoun nikalay hain, and moo band karo

Imran Khan doesn't smile too much.

Those who smile too much can not be trusted.

Like him:

It's a cultural thing... in our part of the world, excessive smiling on the part of someone you don't know is associated either with lewdness (in public environments) or cleverness. We smile after developing a relationship or rapport. And then our sense of humour can be quite amazing.

In the west, many people smile at anyone and everyone and it is meant to signify a friendly attitude.

This survey is idiotic, by the way, because you can't measure or compare cultures which associate different meanings to an act by that act itself. It would be like measuring cultures which disrespect elders by counting the number of younger folk who address their elders with a title of respect... western societies, which don't consider referring to elders with just their name disrespectful, would be at the bottom of the list. And wrongly so, since the survey would not have accounted for the cultural context.
