Pakistan requests aircraft spares from USA

This is almost like a comedy movie... We have known since the 80s that the US was not reliable, they didn't deliver many of the f-16s we ordered, nor did they provide the spares for the ones we already had...so after a decade of wasting money on f-7s, the Americans once again needed are help aaaand....we bought more f-16s and as our relationship deteriorates, we expect them to continue to provide parts.
Its as if there is a complete lack of foresight on the part of our leadership, the lost decade may be over but aside from the jf-17s, this previous one didnt go much better...the air force should invest in 4.5 or 5th generation planes in whatever limited capacity possible, instead of playing catch up to the IAF, a plan that is destined to fail.

Exactly pfpilot, lack of vision, No outlined long term planning and bad Air Force hierarchy/leadership has put Pakistan in time and again in such position vulnerable to Sanctions.

Here is out pea-brainers vision we test trial highly technological Fighter Jets and then go to cheap and not so capable ones not once but twice.

Time changes time to change our attitude and vision, instead of Numbers we should induct highly capable Jets to challenge the opposition the operational cost would be the same as High in numbers would cost.

FC-20
J-20 or similar capable fighter in later stages.
the alleged semi-stealth JFT

Some might take it as impossible but this is the only choice we are left with...To stop being looked as pathetic its the only option or offer extra cash over the price tag of rafale and own it if you can but why would french want to deal with idiots who rejected mirage 2000s not once but thrice.

iaf has a vision a long term plan, they don't keep their eggs in one baskets and certainly indians don't want PAF to get any capable planes and that is why they've done their homework good.
- They have already contracts with Russia even without MRCA russians have an order of around 90+/- Mig29/SU-30 mki
- French have a contract for 53 Mirage 2000 upgrades and weapons.
- indians know PAF is stuck with US so there is no point is getting anything specific to fight program from US.
- indians have a major strong lobby in UK and Typhoons will never enter PAF.
- indians have contracts and offers from Swedish firms and many of contributions would come from swedeish firms for lca mkII

over all its a win-win situation for both parties.

Couldn't have put it better myself.
A direction the PAF seems to avoid is one of quality over quantity. We do have far less fighters than India, but even this doctrine is from a time that Pakistan wasn't completely economically retarded. At this point, is it not logical to rethink our strategy and induct an even smaller number of high tech fighters over useless bulk.
We have a very small country to defend, if the PAF were to invest in a comprehensive SAM network, our fighters would fight with a massive edge in their own territory, putting the onus on the offensive force to keep up the pressure...in such a situation, it will be the IAF facing an increasing amount of pressure to gain some sort of aerial superiority.
A small force of high tech fighters would not only be far more useful than decades old aircraft when modern air to air scenarios conclude that jammers and high off bore sight missiles rule the day, it will save the lives of precious pilots, who would otherwise be sent for slaughter in outdated f-7s and mirage 3s.
For those who feel the current economic conditions are temporary, I ask you to only look at the history of Pakistan, if our political and economic structure remains the same, every 5-10 years we'll continue to dissolve into near depression level conditions.

Good move to test US's poker face - put pressure on them they said no WE get 100 J10B deal signed , they say yes give us 40 spares , ok we get a win win situation good strategy

I don't know if America will do that. If it was me, I would consider trading in those F-16s with China so China can look into them, modify it's weapon systems and software and whatever comes out of it would be compatible with the Chinese and Pakistani systems.

Pakistan – Cooperative Logistics Supply Support Agreement (CLSSA)
Foreign Military Sale Order (FMSO)II Support

WASHINGTON, May 12, 2011 – The Defense Security Cooperation Agency notified Congress today of a possible Foreign Military Sale Order to the Government of Pakistan for spare parts for existing aircraft at an estimated cost of $62 million.
The Government of Pakistan requests a Foreign Military Sale Order (FMSO) to provide funds for blanket order requisitions FMSO II, under the Cooperative Logistics Supply Support Agreement (CLSSA) for spare parts in support of F-16, C-130, T-37 and T-33 aircraft and other aircraft or systems/subsystems of U.S. origin in the inventory of the Pakistan Air Force. The estimated cost is $62 million.
This proposed sale will contribute to the foreign policy and national security of the United States by helping to improve the security of a friendly country that has been, and continues to be, an important force for political stability and economic progress in Central Asia.
The uninterrupted supply of spare parts will allow Pakistan to keep its aircraft fleet at the highest state or readiness.
The proposed sale of this equipment and support will not alter the basic military balance in the region.
Procurement of these items will be from many contractors providing similar items to the U.S. forces. There are no known offset agreements proposed in connection with this potential sale.
Implementation of this sale will not require the assignment of any additional U.S. government or contractor representatives to Pakistan.
There will be no adverse impact on U.S. defense readiness as a result of this proposed sale.
This notice of a potential sale is required by law and does not mean the sale has been concluded.
