Pakistan's repeated threat to close its
airspace for Indian airlines seems more
aimed at placating its own people angry over
the Kashmir issue as taking such a step
would come with a huge financial cost for
the crisis-ridden country.
At a time when its flag carrier Pakistan
International Airlines (PIA) desperately needs
government funds to stay afloat and the
country is losing Rs850 crore due to airspace
closure in the wake of tensions with India,
another airspace closure to bar Indian
carriers from overflying could cost it dearly.
Struggling to survive, PIA recently retrenched
hundreds of people and depends on
government funds to continue its business.
While Pakistan government has maintained
that it stands behind the national carrier, the
commitment appears hollow given its own
finances are precarious.
Pakistan's Federal Minister for Aviation
Ghulam Sarwar Khan had last month said that
Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority suffered a
loss of Rs 8.5 billion owing to airspace
restrictions since February 2019 in the wake
of a military clash with India.
The airspace was opened in July but
following the Indian government's move to
abrogate Article 370, Pakistan has often
talked about airspace closure.
As per local media reports in Pakistan, Prime
Minister Imran Khan had on Tuesday chaired
a meeting of the aviation division in
Islamabad to discuss PIA's business plan,
requirements and other issues.
The airline plans to add 12 new planes to its
fleet by 2023 taking the total size to 45. Four
planes will be added to the fleet by 2020.
Industrial relations at the airline have been
strained with its pilot body and the
management being at loggerheads
threatening to affect flight operations.
The pilot body had recently blamed the airline
management for "non-serious attitude" as it
had not "paid any heed to repeated
reminders" regarding "continuous violation of
its own flight operation manual" as well as of
local and international safety guidelines that
put both the aircraft and passengers' safety
at risk, a local newspaper reported.

We will not close it till 27th September. After September we will.

Wouldn't the impact of closing airspace be actually felt more by foreign airlines and not Indian? I think (not sure) there are lot more middle-eastern and european carriers that use Pakistan space than Indian, so impact-wise it will be a non-event outside Pakistan other than irritating the gulf arab countries (emirates, qatar, etihaad etc)

No the ban would be limited to the Airlines owned and operated by India like Air India.

The ban will not have any adverse impact on Airlines owned and operated by other countries like Emirates, Ethihad etc.

In fact, This means the prices of Air India will be much higher than prices of Emirates, Ethihad which means Air India will go bankrupt as Air India customers will move to other Air Lines which will make a windfall profit by this move.

So many other countries will infact strongly support this move by Pakistan.

No. It would be closed once the deal between US & Pakistan/Taliban has been reached.

Kh*nzeer Times executive editor is Vicky Kapur so one can understand this offshore medium for Indian propaganda. This idiot talks about PIA financial situation even though airspace earning is CAA domain and has nothing to do with PIA, and many Pak sectors earn more than the amount of money they earn from airspace.
If this govt. does'nt close airspace our Pak Army will as rat Modi has no choice but to escalate situation, but this govt. inaction is giving relief to the Indians who will never give any such relief to Pakistan.
This @BVR has decided not to mention Air India is on verge of bankruptcy and does not have money to pay for its fuel. It is in worse condition than what happened to Shaheen Air. Indian govt. already facing slowdown is trying to sell air india to Qatar, in order to push Qatar to deal with Pakistan if they again close airspace.

Air India is cancelling flights due to the debt and inability to pay for fuel. ITs passengers were stranded in Shanghai and alternative plane was flown to bring them back:

if the Pakistan air space is blocked only for India owned airlines, the impact on India will be limited to the airlines just flying a bit longer via Arabian sea instead. All flights South of Mumbai already do that anyway. People won't be impacted at all. A little bit of extra fuel cost, not a big deal I think. Why does govt of Pakistan think this is a big deal?

It is a big deal. Otherwise you wouldn't be begging in this topic.

By the way, the ban is coming whether you like it or not. Only a matter of time.

if that is the only reasoning, it makes no sense. No, I am asking seriously to understand : why does govt or people of Pakistan think this is a big deal for India?

The reason is raping and killing in occupied Kashmir. More crew, more fuel, money lost, time lost etc. You want more reasons?

Ask your Indian government why it was begging Pakistan to overturn the previous ban.

you seem more interested in lashing out than looking at the actual issue and impact. Anyway, have a decent weekend

You need to stop pretending that you are almighty. You depend on our airspace and soon we are going to ban and punish you.

UAE, USA, France or anyone else won't be able to come to your rescue.
