Pakistan Rekindles Interest in HQ-9/FD-2000 SAM.

http://www.military-today.com/missiles/hq9.htm

H Q-9A is an improved version. It was first tested in 1999 and was adopted in 2001.
HQ-9B improved version with longer range and extra seeker. It was reportedly tested in 2006. The missile has a dual seeker with semi-active radar homing and infrared homing modes.
HQ-9C improved version that is currently under development. The missile incorporates active radar homing mode.
HQ-19 a much upgraded version of the HQ-9. It is Chinese equivalent to the US THAAD. It was specially developed to engage ballistic missiles and satellites on lower Earth orbit. The missile is armed with kinetic kill vehicle.

In my view, Pakistan Military ought to chalk out studying the viability of layered Air Defense Network. Granted that Pakistan doesn't have the geographical depth (through the length of the country), but it is still an area that needs to be explored. It is important that Pakistan has a credible Air Defense Network, which not only includes radars systems which are able to detect ballistic missiles, but also cruise missiles, supersonic cruise missiles and UAVs. A layered ADN is also dependent on whether funds are available to embark upon such a program. It would also be interesting to see whether Russia would play ball with us and permit us to purchase S-400s, BUK-M3s and Panstir SAMs. Because if the layered ADN is not feasible, the least we can do is ensure the strategic sites are defended at all costs. An S-400/BUK-M3 network defending let's say Kahuta would be impenetrable, coupled with Block-52s on round the clock CAP (during war of course).

Turkey is working with premier European Defence companies to create it owns long range SAM system. Pakistan would be better of joining this program and in the meantime adopting Turkeys short and medium range air defense system. This when coupled with Chinese & European systems already in place will create a very potent layered AD network.

what about source codes and integration into current radar setup and system. EWould that not be a problem for items from multiple sources.

Great question. But I think Pakistan has some degree of proficiency in integration when you look at how it has integrated Chinese European & American radars especially Erieye, Chinese AWACS etc. I don’t foresee that being a big issue. Combination of different weapon sources makes any air Defence system credible. It has various benefits.

To correct a misunderstanding in here, Turkey has been developing a few long range air defence programs which is going to serve for multiple purposes in Army’s arsenal.

Aselsan Hisar-U: A single stage interceptor missile against air breathing threats and missiles. This program will be equivalent of Israeli Barak-8 in terms of working principle and usage.

Tübitak SAGE Siper: Dual stage interceptor missile against air breathing threats and ballistic missiles. This missile wilk be equivalent of Israeli Stunner.

Aselsan/Roketsan/Tübitak SAGE/EuroSam GUMS: A dual stage interceptor which will be used against mostly ballistic missiles. The cooperation will be done based on either Aster Block1NT or Block-2 program.

Although there are some consideration to proceed Hisar-U and Siper programs under the structure of one missile system, I don’t suppose there would be such a move since their main contractors, timelines and scopes are totally different. European partnership will be done over GUMS program. Other two is solely developed by Turkish industrial teams.

HQ-9B with 300 kilometers active track and homing not bad as compared to 400 km of S-400.

upcoming HQ-9C with anti stealth radars 400 km+ range and anti settalite shoot down capabilities is a game changer for chinese and pakistani defence.

This would make even united states attacks agajnst these counteries near impossible and cost of attack being very heavy on united states..

Chinese engineers are doing a great job. I doubt pakistan could ever catch up this fast without chinese help. These radars seekers and missiles on pakistan and China's surface ships on ocean could be a force multiplier in the oceans as well.

China is really strengthening Pakistani defence phenominally. United states or russia could never match chinese help and input into pakistankz defence.

Chinese are very very reliable friends and suppliers for pakistan. Im glad chinese are surpasing west in defence and research slowly. This means less threat from the west against china or pakistan. In some context russia is safer too.

Had the russians helped chinese in this air defence field china would have gotten here 10 years ago . but anything indegenous is always better...

What Air defence Missile system( with Range) does Pakistan, currently have to beat future Indian S400 Missile system ???.Various picture about it are on social media but none is confirmed ??
Kindly add to our knowledge ??

AKISTAN REPORTEDLY SEEKING FD-2000 LONG RANGE ANTI-AIR MISSILES
ShareTweet

Having successfully procured nine HQ-16-based LY-80 medium-range (MR) surface-to-air missile (SAM) systems from China, Pakistan is now reportedly setting its focus on the FD-2000.

Quoting a Pakistan Ministry of Defence Production (MoDP) official, the Russian News Agency TASS reports that Pakistan is now studying the feasibility of procuring three or four FD-2000 long-range SAM systems to fulfill its long-range air defence requirements.

With a maximum engagement range of 125 km, the FD-2000 is an export variant of the HQ-9, which is the People’s Liberation Army’s (PLA) primary long-range SAM systems on land and at sea.

Reportedly, the FD-2000 has a maximum speed of Mach 4.2, a semi-active radar-homing (SARH) seeker and reaction time of 15 seconds. Its maximum engagement altitude is 27 km (i.e., 88,500+ ft).

Of the nine LY-80 systems on order, the Pakistan Army has reportedly taken delivery of them thus far. The LY-80 was formally inducted in March 2017 and, according to TASS, the delivered systems are operational.

Besides extending its air defence coverage, Pakistan is also reportedly improving its very short-range air defence (VSHORAD) capabilities. Citing a Pakistan Ministry of Defence official, TASS reports that Pakistan inducted 200 QW-18-man portable air defence (MANPAD) launchers from China and, in turn, is planning to manufacture the QW-18 domestically under license.

Notes & Comments:

Though there had been reports of Pakistan expressing interest in Russian long-range air defence systems, pursuing a Chinese system was the more natural outcome. Not only is China an assuredly willing supplier of such systems to Pakistan, but Pakistan also has experience operating integrated air defence systems of Chinese origin – i.e., the LY-80 and, in the future, the LY-80N via the Type 054A frigate.

The FD-2000 is analogous in its capabilities to the Russian S-300. Granted, the FD-2000 is a shorter-range system than the S-400, but it would represent a major step as Pakistan’s first long-range anti-air warfare system with a range of over 100 km. While comparatively less than the S-400, the FD-2000 would provide an additional air defence layer, especially against high-altitude threats.

Pak shud go for HQ 9C

Still a good system for SP AD Regts is required with altitude above 25km. Armored formations need attention too
So they would move with Army in Battlefield? Aren't these systems used to protect imoortant installations/cities?

Thank you very much for providing valuable informations about FD-2000 / HQ-9 SAM .
Kindly inform us ,how much of FD-2000/HQ-9 do Pakistan army have right now, what is its range and version ??

Whats the difference between HQ 9B/FD2000B and S 400?
The more important question is, when the cheap knock-off version of the S-400 will be made available to Pakistan?

Can you imagine Indians going nuts that we acquire something similar at half the price. Hell, we might just get a Group Discount if the Army want some for themselves.

Putting all eggs in chinese pot is stupudity better bought S 350 more capable than these toys

No S 350 is more superior in tech

Pakistan should go for S-350E to diversify its arsenal if S-400 is not available from Russia, also it have more SAMs per launcher meaning more engagement capacity.

what is s350?
