ISLAMABAD - Pakistan has reportedly refused to accept two key demands of IMF over bailout package.

Pakistan has not agreed to the IMF’s demand about the revenue gathering targets, sources said.

Pakistan put forth its stance saying that the current year the tax collection target will not be raised from Rs4400 billion. Sources said that the IMF had asked Pakistan to raise the target to Rs4700 billion.

Pakistan has also turned down the demand to raise the interest rate up to 13 per cent on bank loans, saying that it could be detrimental to its economy.

Meanwhile, Pakistan has said it will continue its policy to control currency value, to which the IMF agreed, said the sources.

Pakistan is awaiting a response from the IMF , as a delegation will likely visit the country in the first week of January. In case the delegation cannot pay a visit to Pakistan, negotiation will take place through a video conference.

Looks like they have decided to screw the common man!

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has agreed to a condition from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to raise electricity tariff.

Geo quoted a source as saying that Pakistan and IMF have come to agreement on two of the four points for a bailout package.

Pakistan, however, turned down the IMF’s demand regarding revenue gathering targets.

No. When a whore infects you with disease you might not feel the effects until later. The economic crisis we see today in Pakistan is creation of the previous Nawaz government and now the country has to pick up the costs.
and previous governments were also blaming Government before them i.e martial laws, Musharraf, war on terror, terrorism, PPP and according to them they also inherited economy in bad shape....so it seem everyone has simple excuse to do nothing to fix it but just put all blame on previous governments

no clue what you meant. The agreement with IMF on power tariffs has the maximum effect/damage to low income earners and these people have no way to fightback.

So yeah Govt just screwed the lower middle class and lower class people to protect high earners

Higher interest rates will slow down the economic engine (less borrowings by businesses) and finally the government's revenue will shrink. And alternatively, it will decreases inflation and the money supply in market which is good in current situation. Both IMF's demands are good for our economy excluding the increase of utility bills for export oriented industries.

The previous government created the present economic which has delivered Pakistan to the hands of IMF.

Now the short term options are limited. You can of course offer suggestions that would satisfy IMF. And maybe cuss Nawaz for having created the situation Pakistan is in.

Not just the previous government...it's a culmination of decades of mismanagement and corruption by successive PPP/PML-N/PML-Q(with Musharraf) governments and going way further back. A majority of the politicians/bureaucrats and other top leadership from all parties played a part...and for that I blame the ppl. The ppl are whining and crying now about "mehngai" and "water/electricity shortage" etc. They brought this upon themselves when they kept electing these idiot/corrupt ppl.

and previous governments
True. But. Between them they ruled Pakistan for over 30 years since 1988 when Zia dived bombed into the Bawalalpur Desert. This government has been in charge for about 14 freakin weeks. If they pull that "previous" excuse in 3 years time leave alone 30 years time tag me please.

Indeed. Very true. Look the brutal truth is Pakistan is where it is because of all those who have been at the helm of power since the demise of General Zia. Consider this -

1985 ~ Nawaz
1988 ~ Bhutto/Zardari
1992 ~ Nawaz
1993 ~ Bhutto/Zardari
1997 ~ Nawaz
1999 ~ Musharaf
2007 ~ Zardari
2013 ~ Nawaz

The fact is a baby born when Nawaz was given public public office in government would be 33 years old today and when Zardari got his ugly mug in PM house behind Bhutto's image the child would be 30 years old. Think about that. These guys have guided the destiny of Pakistan one way or other for three decades. Majority of Pakistan was not even born when they guys grabbed the sterring wheel. Therefore the mess you see today is directly attributable to them. And if they could not sort Pakistan in 30 years time wtf are they able to do now?

On the contrary PM IK only took over 12 weeks ago. And these people want to make final judgements on his government. That says everything.

If they pull that "previous" excuse
Correction. If in 30 years time in the year 2050 Imran Khan is still hanging around and wanting to be given another term in office with new promises tag me please.

And he has groomed his boys Sulaiman Khan and Qasim Khan as heirs to his party let me know.

Yes I'm in agreement that PPP(Zardari) and PML-N(Nawaz) had the most time to ruin the country and that it won't be fixed over night. I'm not blaming IK bcuz he found the country in a mess on the verge of bankruptcy and he can't waive a magic wand and make it all go away overnight. I'm blaming the ppl...for continuing to elect the idiots repeatedly. It's simple...if a government comes to power...fails to do anything substantial, fails to deliver on its promises and commits massive fraud/corruption...then don't elect them again...ever. Give someone new a chance...this way, while there is a chance that the new person can also be incompetent/corrupt, at least u have eliminated the previous government which was definitely corrupt.

As for the current government, I'm not expecting any miracles. If IK can just stabilize the downward trend of the economy, increase exports, increase tax revenue and start winding down the cycle of taking more loans to pay off previous ones(though he will have to go to IMF at least this once)...I'll be happy. It will have to be baby steps. If IK has made some progress by the end of his government, he should be elected again. However if he carries on like the previous governments then he should be kicked to the curb. Ppl need to wake up and stop having loyalty to this person or that political party...and instead start being loyal to the country.

I'm blaming the ppl
I feel the same as you. One could argue that the people deserve what they get. But it's not that simple. Unfortunately more then people decide the fate of nations. It would need a essay to fully do justice to why we are at where we are. But to slice it down simple. I would say the Cold War created situation where outside powers [read USA] propped up governments in Pakistan. These government played all sort of games to extend their rule while they drank US aid dollars. Some of the games or failures that were played out were-

  • use of religion as a sedative to put the masses to sleep or distract them
  • failure to provide universal education.
The Chinese back in 1950s launched a revolution and brought education to every village. This has not even been done in Pakistan in 2018. Why not? Why do have millions of kids in madaris? Do we really needed millions of mullahs? How will they be productive? The rulers divided society or helped to divide it even more and created a conflicted/divided society. That all was a guise for rulers like Nawaz or Zardari to play game of music chairs.

I mean Nawaz was sex groomed by a military general Zia and now he talks about democracy. The guy is inarticulate, has limited IQ, could not even get a job as traffic warden in UK but has been a godfather since 1985. Zaradri. Besides shagging Benezir please somebody tell me his credentials. Zardari literally fcuked his way into becoming a president of Pakistan. What exactly is his other credentials may I ask? Even that he fcuked the sperm of another sex groomed product [ZAB] of another military dicator Ayub Khan.

And both are now leaving behind their sperm [Maryam/Bilawal] to continue the plunder. And then they talk of democracy and Imran Khan's lack of experiance. I tell you what. Imran Khan is stupid. Instead of fcuking about in Europe he should have gone after Benezir. Then he could have been PM in waiting since 1988.

Look like there were many interruption during term of previous government beside terrorism, constant road march Dharnaaz of PTI , political engineering etc and you are basically saying that PTI era will not be any different than exiting era because economic situation is such bad that it don't make any difference who run this country because outcome will be same with all these limited choices but my point is PTI won election on this promise that they have got this formula or team to fix economy and others issues in Pakistan and they promised this after knowing the poor shape of economy . Pakistani awaam gave them mandate to do practical work but all I am hearing is that how bad were PML(N), PPP, ANP, MQM JU etc they were all bad that's why they got rejected and people gave chance to PTI so this excuse might work for short term but it will not work for long term after five or 10 years

There were. But the time in PM office was still lot more then 14 weeks.

you are basically saying that PTI era will not be any different than exiting era because economic situation is such bad
When did I say that? Yes, not much can change in 14 weeks but I we all can agree at end of this term the country can decide and we can expect some change. If not then yes PTI will have failed. But people here are giving their score cards when the government has not even completed one year of it's five year term.

many interruption
And don't forget it was one of these 'interuptions' [when General Zia overthrew a elected government of Zulfikar Bhutto in 1978] that spawned your darling puppy - Nawaz in the first place.
