The whole acquisition of a attack helicopter for Pakistan is a clusterfvck. First it was the T-129 then the WZ-10 followed by the "confirmed" deal for Vipers and now this. Damn...

Hi,

It is not a cluster fck----. The 35 is a different kind of helicopter---. Pakistan looked into the T 129---. The 3 or 4 WZ10 were donated to Pakistan by china to test them in the high altitude and other battle conditions.

Vipers were on the purchase list---once they got approved---the deal was done.

These other helicopters will compliment strike capability and landing of troops of the MI 35---.

both vipers and Mi35 are coming. both for different roles obviously .. no T-129 till Turkish engine.
can't say anything about WZ-10. but as we boht know that WZ-10 yet have to prove itself while other two are proven platforms. so you can conclude that there is "no WZ-10" also..

Four are enough for the Talibunees. This Heli is like a flying TANK with immense firepower.

With a service ceiling of 16,000 feet, it should be able to do some serious Damage while flying out of reach of the little Talibunees.

General Information

The multirole Mi-35M attack helicopter is a comprehensive modernisation of the Mi-24V. The Mi-35M was developed by the Mil Moscow Helicopter Plant, and has been series produced at Rostvertol since 2005.

The Mi-35M offers round the clock:

  • Combat use of guided and unguided weapons in regular and challenging climate conditions;
  • Operational for attack flights at altitudes of 10-25 m daytime and 50 m at night over land or water.
For round-the-clock combat use, the Mi-35M is equipped with the latest navigation and avionics suite with multifunction coloured displays, target sights system that includes a thermal imager and TV channels, laser range finder and location finder.

The Mi-35M is distinguished by its improved construction. It is equipped with the latest Klimov-produced powerful VK-2500 turboshaft engines, fibreglass main rotor blades, main rotor head with elastomeric joints, a new swashplate and X-type tail rotor. The Mi-35M’s fuselage boasts shortened stub wings and fixed landing gear.

The Mi-35M boasts enhanced flight capabilities, and can be operated at high temperatures and in mountainous terrain. The Mi-35M’s design ensures low noise levels, greater combat resilience, and reduces the workload on maintenance staff.

In addition to its attack capabilities, the Mi-35M can also be used in other operations:

  • Landing-transporting up to 8 paratroopers, with equipment, in the transport cabin;
  • Transporting military supplies or other cargo weighing up to 1,500 kg internally. The Mi-35M is also fitted with an external sling system, expanding its cargo carrying capacity to 2,400 kg.
  • Medical uses include carrying the sick and injured along with medical personnel.
Mi-24/25/35 helicopters have proved their high levels of operational efficiency over many years in service. The Mi-35M combines this unique experience of combat operation with the latest achievements and developments in helicopter building.

The Mi-35 is operated by the Armed Forces of Russia, Venezuela, Brazil and Azerbaijan.

Contract for delivery of Mil Mi-35M helicopters to Pakistan may be signed this year
14:52 June 18, 2015 Interfax
A contract for the delivery of Mil Mi-35M military transport helicopters to Pakistan is practically ready, a senior source in the military-technological cooperation sector told Interfax-AVN on June 18.

"A substantial portion of technical and financial issues has been coordinated with [our] Pakistan partners in the preparation of the helicopter deal. We do not see any insurmountable impediments to the conclusion of this contract. It may be signed already this year," the source said.

In his words, a new round of negotiations with representatives of the Pakistani Defense Ministry on the delivery of Russian helicopters was held on the sidelines of the Army 2015 international military-technological forum. "The negotiations were fruitful. We can say that the work on the contract for the delivery of Mil Mi-35 helicopters to Pakistan has reached a final stage," the source said.

He declined to say how many Russian helicopters Pakistan was planning to buy. Foreign media outlets said 20 Mil Mi-35M choppers might be delivered.

According to earlier reports, Pakistan was expecting to use the Russian helicopters in antiterrorism operations rather than for military purposes.

The Mil Mi-35M is a product of the Mil Moscow Helicopter Plant. Mass production of helicopters is being carried out by Rostvertol, a unit of the Russian Helicopters Holding.

The helicopter is capable of round-the-clock missions. It has more fire power and improved performance characteristics. The helicopter is armed with precision-guidance missiles Shturm and Ataka.

But look at every week news or everyday, we easily caught many Talibans terrorists or destroy their hidden camps without helicopters, what is going to make differences?

It sounds like Pakistan finally purchase F-22 Raptors or F-35 (multi-helicopters) after long times.

These helicopters will be used by the ANF officially but I see the SSG using them in their missions. Great support helicopters, imagine a barrage of rockets followed by quick deployment of commandos...

Pakistan on Wednesday signed an agreement with Russia to purchase MI-35 ‘Hind’ attack helicopters.

“An agreement was signed between Pakistan and Russian authorities in Rawalpindi for the purchase of four MI-35 helicopters,” said a senior military official on Wednesday.

The official, however, did not provide any further details about the deal, or shed any light on the configuration of the helicopters which Pakistan will receive. No timeline for delivery of the helicopters was revealed.

The agreement is believed to have been finalised during Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif’s visit to Russia in June earlier this year.

Russia’s move is a major shift in it’s policy in the wake of strategic partnership between US and India.

Moscow has for long ignored Islamabad in a bit to please its long term ally New Delhi. But as a result of India’s growing tilt towards the US, Russia has now begun to expand its cooperation with Pakistan.

For its part, Islamabad is eager to improve its ties with Moscow to diversify its options in the event of any stalemate in ties with Washington.

Last year, Russia had sent a draft contract to Pakistan for the dispatch of four Mil Mi-35M combat helicopters.

Russia’s state arms exporter Rosoboronexport, said that talks pertaining to the delivery of helicopters were under way with the Pakistani side. However, it declined to disclose the details of these consultations.

“Following the results of the talks held earlier on helicopters, which Pakistan would like to get from Russia, a draft contract on the delivery of four Mi-35M gunships has been sent to the Pakistani side. Pakistan is now studying the document,” the source said.

Earlier this year, US State Department had approved Pakistan’s request to purchase US-made attack helicopters, missiles and other equipment valued at almost $1 billion.

The Pentagon had said that Pakistan’s request included 15 AH-1Z Viper helicopters made by the Bell arm of Textron Inc alongside 1,000 Hellfire missiles produced by Lockheed Martin Corp and a host of other communications and training equipment with valued at a total of $952 million, according to a notification to Congress, which approves every sale.

Pakistan has been exploring options to replenish and upgrade its fleet of Bell AH-1 Cobra attack helicopters as its operation against militants enters the final phase. Among the options available were the Z-10 by China and the T129 ATAK multirole combat helicopters, manufactured by the Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI).

Very happy to hear this news. This is just the beginning and will get more sweet with time. Although 4 is a low number but there is a message behind this purchase that now Russia can sell lethal equipment to Pakistan. Realistically we don't need high number of MI 35. Somewhere around 12-16 is enough because they are more like a special forces chopper. But I do think PAA should increase the number of vipers to atleast 24.

.
This is good news, I think they are only going for 4 heli's at the moment to see how it goes. Remember that we haven't dealt with Russia in a while, so it will be a slow process.
