* Does Pakistan need a spy satellite, for locating potential terrorist targets in the North,as well as keeping an eye on Indian military deployments and force posture?

* Does Pakistan have access to any such facility from friendly countries like China, etc?

* What are the costs involved in building such a capability?

* What are the technological chellanges involved and if it is inside our ability to develop one?

* What would be the potential advantages of this capability and its potential alternatives?

Please discuss.

for india yes but for terrorists no

it will be difficult to built it on our own we would need help from china

+++it will be expensive

We get regular access to high resolution images from various sources including satellites.

We also need our own capability - which has been discussed and is in the planning stage.

There are special departments dealing with image interpretation

Satellites helps not only in Militarily by civil too. So, every country has its requirements. You won't believe but After TSUNAMI in IOR, we have developed the capability to predict TSUNAMI way before and it is successful.

I will be surprised if pakistan does not posses access to signals upto now.

You will require a developed infra and resources to use that. Its way too critical so heavy costs need to infuse

* What are the technological chellanges involved and if it is inside our ability to develop one?

Need to develop a culture to promote every one from students to political leadership towards that

In addition to 1st reply, it facilitates you to avoid dependency on other country. In geopolitics, nothing is permanent

Pakistan has many options that meet its purposes at much lower costs than having its own satellite(s):

Satellite Imagery and Geospatial Information Products

Satellite Imagery and Aerial Photography Services | Satellite Imaging Corp

Pakistan can ask USA or China to share images of their spy sattellites.I doubt if they don't have this kind of facility already.also, countries doesn't always yell about possessing spy sattellite.Even India who generally calls Risat-2 as its first dedicated recon sat possessed this kind of sats for years before that.

Google Earth is free, that is why. But Pakistan does have access to the resources provided by commercial suppliers such as the ones I have described, for a price of course.

One amongst many - as you know it - this type of analysis - is being used across the spectrum of national security.

Ah! Back to the China syndrome! Can't you guys do ANYTHING without China's help? I daresay your scientists are equally capable but because of your over-dependence on China for everything, they have not been encouraged to develop technologies on their own.

It's high time Pakistan discards those Chinese crutches and did something on its own with its well qualified scientists and engineers. For how long are you going to depend on China for everything from nukes to rat traps?

How is that any different from India ? India can't do anything without its foreign arms suppliers like Russia, Israel, France, etc.
