What's new

Pakistan must pay a total of US $ 5.840 Billion including interest to TCC in damage : ICSID

. .
I doubt, if any single contract in Pakistan is handed out fairly.
Actually Pakistanis don't have the capacity to prepare technical and legal contractual documents. So even if the contracts are handed out fairly, we will remain in trouble for ever.
However, If you talk with a empty headed Pakistani prime minister, he would only be full of praise for himself and full of criticism for others. excluding his inlaws.

. .
Deal was done ans broken before him.
That's true.
Issue wasn't limited to deal, company was already working on project, when it was cancelled and all the smart asses of Pakistan were witnessing the development cluelessly.
''Pack of idiots'' is how i can define Pakistani bureaucracy.

.
You know I have been thinking about this fiasco. Since the people chose the likes of bastard seeds like Nawaz Sharif and Zardari the current government should simply increase taxes and extract this amount from the people. Simply punish these headless chickens. There is no need to have and endless discussion here.

When you commit a crime there is punishment. The people committed a crime by electing and re-electing crooks. They knew all along what their beloved chosen leaders were doing. The people are as much responsible for the economic malaise as their elected leaders. The people are party in these crimes. Plain and simple.

who ever was involved in it needs to be shot dead.

That would be the easy way out for the BAS**** Iftikhar Chawhdry; the ulcer which cost Pakistan big with many of his decisions.

This was decided in 2017, if i remember.. what is new in it?

Verdict was announced earlier, I think the claim has been awarded this time.

I haven't heard a word from Imran Khan's government. This is a moment that needs to be cashed in. Everyone is angry and asking questions. Why is the government mum about this daylight robbery?

Is the government just going to remain quiet and not bring the crooks to justice? This would be criminal and inept.

It's a part of world bank - the decision tribunal. If your govt had agreed to the decision being binding, then not upholding decision could lead to blacklisting by world bank.. That is not good (in summary)

We cannot afford to pay it, simple as that.

The only workaround I can think of is giving the company the mining contract and to settle the matter with minerals that the company digs out of Rekodig.

hmmm.
I say we show them middle finger and tell them right on their face we ain't giving them a penny. What is the worse that could happen??? We have nukes.:angel:

Financial isolation.

The CJoP did nothing wrong. The contract was not awarded by an elected government rather done dubiously through a caretaker government. There was nothing in this for Pakistan. The ore would have been mined and shipped outside without purification. This should be a lesson for Pakistan to mend its dubious investment laws that allows such companies to take advantage. The issue here is the bilateral treaty between Pakistan and Australia to exploit Pakistan's mineral resources. TCC was a shell company setup in Australia to exploit this treaty. For the record, the terms were far less than Reko Diq a Chinese investment that the western media keeps bitching about as exploitive. All such processes must include the Supreme Court verdict (a special branch can be constituted) in order to ensure that all such contracts were awarded through transparent means and are fair to both parties.

How can you be certain that Tethyan's a shell company and that the contract was awarded to them by some caretaker gov? Any evidence?

I don't know what's going on but the SOB Iftikhar Ch. was also responsible for debacle with the Turkish Rental Power Company which also cost us big time at international arbitration. His senseless decisions are the reason we are still stuck with the steel mill which has costed us tens of Billions of rupees over many many years.

Let's see if justice is indeed served, by bringing to task all those who were involved in Rekodig and Turkish companies......technically, the culprits should be made to pay for the entire sum of award against Pakistan.

I stand corrected.

He's quite correct, check my post #138. I didn't wanted to detail the exact mess in the contract.
I knew the flaws in contract from beginning, actually i was informed about the stated flaws by an Indian. However when i investigated further, i found out, its pretty standard cheating of gold mining companies in third rated countries operated by third rated people, similar way, Chinese had been cheating Pakistan at Sandak mines from years.

Lesson to be learned is that Pakistani Politicians are not the right people to operate the state, for one or other reason. They are not even loyal to Pakistan.

We all have witnessed how Musharraf was vindicated by media, political parties, lawyers (liars) and Iftikhar chodary. Even if any one questioned sanity in pulling down a progressive regime, was targeted in all possible ways.
it's not by chance that all political parties of Pakistan united against Musharraf in UK, includes PTI, ANP types as well.

Imagine they wanted to hang Musharraf first for BB murder case, than they try to hook him up for imposing emergency, even further more they want to blame Musharraf for NRO ordinance, which was mostly implemented after his resignation....!! we all are responsible for it, so we all must pay the price.

I stand corrected.

I would like to know, what Imran Khan was doing about the case from past 9 months?

Why this matter was not under radar and why it wasn't raised in parliament?
