Pakistan Must Ban all Fossil Fuel Electricity Generation Investments

First and a cheap step would be that Pakistan should install reverse meters. By this I mean that there are many houses in Pakistan that have solar panels installed and allow them to sell access energy back to Wapda this will encourage more people to invest in free energy and thus decrease the dependency on fossil fuel.

.
true, I have argued number of times here that best option for sub continent is solar energy today. The lowest bid for solar tariff is quored Rs 2.44 whcih is cheaper than any source of energy. I hope pakistan goes big way in solar power so as BD. We in Gujarat are building a 5000 MW solar power plant.

Thank you @HariPrasad for the right statistics and relevant information. Over time I realized that quite a large number of Indians are more patriotic to their country and better humans than us Pakistanis. Most of us Pakistanis would make tall claims of patriotism to somehow swindle money or put a false impression on others to be able to cheat others.

Niaz, I wanted to give a sincere suggestion for other good people to really think about. But you are a vested interest guy who will make up all sort of distorted "facts" so that people of Pakistan could not make the right decisions for their future.

Hon Sir,

I am all for increasing the percentage of renewable energy in Pakistan, but you propose a complete ban!

Pakistan imports roughly 150,000 bbl per day ( about 7.5-million tons) of crude oil, about 4.5-milion of Diesel and 5-million tons of motor gasoline, 200,000 tons of Jet fuel leach year and LNG imports could reach 30-million tons by 2025.

It would be a very long time before electric cars and truck are available to replace the current fleet and it would cost a fortune to do so. But how do you plan to fuel the fighter jets and transport planes? Wouldn’t a complete ban bring the entire country to a halt? Wouldn't you agree that your proposal is not practicable & totally unrealistic and would be disastrous for the country’s economy in the near term?

All disadvantages of renewable energy mentioned in my post are genuine. You are of course free to think that I am twisting the facts. There are genuine reasons why the world still relies heavily on the fossils and main being the ‘Economic’.

You are welcome to your views; however, I assure you that I have no vested interests. For the record, my house has already been surveyed by a Solar Panel supplier. I am currently waiting for the ‘Quote’. It all depends upon economics if the ‘payout’ period is less than 8 years I shall go ahead.

No developing country can afford to overlook non renewable sources to meet Its energy needs. Thats simply not possible for developing countries today if they are not very small. What you can do meanwhile is to get enough powerplants first of all type to meet immediate and near future needs and slowly try to increase the share of renewable sources in long term. But alot depends on economic conditions over the time and such as well.

@niaz, as the topic suggests, I am asking for a ban on fossil fuel energy generation investments which means ban on setting up new fossil fuel electricity generation plants. I never said that we must ban import of all sort of fossil fuels immediately. And I have copied relevant sentences from my post where I specifically mention new investments to make it more clear.
And with no end to foreign exchange crisis in sight any time in near future, Government of Pakistan must ban any new fossil fuel energy generation investments in the country because fulfilling fast increasing energy needs with new fossil fuel generated energy will continue to exacerbate the already existing foreign exchange crisis.

And here in this copied part from my post, I suggested that we phase out fossil fuel energy generation which means we should make efforts to decrease it over time.
4. So government should make a coherent plan to encourage renewable energy investments and also phase out fossil fuel generation both because of trade imbalance and negative effect to our environment. Please reconsider all the pipeline projects after taking into account the interest of our country.
