Pakistan is Rising Star Among Top 20 Frontier Markets

Two of the BRICs (China, India ) are include in the group for the size of their populations, while Brazil and Russia are in the group because of their natural resources.

Pakistan has both...the world's sixth largest population soon to be 5th and it has vast untapped natural resources. What it needs is peace and improved governance.

South Africa was included in BRICS for none of those reasons. It is for their potential for growth not their economic and political stability which made them emerging countries.

Pakistan has over 9 billion barrels of oil and over 100 trillion cubic feet of gas. There are also vast deposits of gold and copper and rare earths in Pakistan. It also lots has of rich farmland and a youthful population.

Haq's Musings: US EIA Estimates Pak Shale Oil Reserves at 9.1 Billion Barrels

A total Chinese oil shale resource amounts of 720 billion tonnes, located in 80 deposits of 47 oil shale basins. This is equal to 48 billion tonnes of shale oil. At the same time there are speculations that the actual resource may even exceed the oil shale resource of the United States.

Similarly other countries have other resources like India has a lot of good quality coal... iron..

Who included South Africa? Goldman Sachs or the politicians?

BTW, BRIC now stands for Bloody Ridiculous Investment Concept, according to SGS's Albert Edwards. It is now a joke itself, except for China. Even Goldman's O'Niell, the coiner of BRIC, believes so.

Saudi Arabia and Pakistan are both top 25 economies today.

As to the future, Goldman Sachs's O'Neill see a much brighter future for Pakistan as member of N11 than Saudi Arabia.

India and China NEED more resources which they don't have for the size of their populations. And coal won;t do for the long term.

A much brighter future .I appreciate that.
But comparing Saudi and Pakistan is seems to be joke.Saudi Arabia a developed nation, top oil producer in the World.
Well I dont know why these Saudi give so much aid to the largest Pakistan economy. Why dont you reject that aid like we rejected UK aid and call it as a peanut.?

Doesn't this apply on Pakistan? Our Natural gas resources (currently discovered) are going to be exhausted in 15 years! That's why GoP is planning to import LNG from Qatar and IP Pipeline... (sad that even that is not being completed by our incompetent and spineless governments).. How does Pakistan stand out of the crowd?

India continues to receive billions in both government, UN agencies (UNICEF, UNDP, etc) and private aid (NGOs like Gates Foundation) in spite of being a larger economy.

Well Jim O Neill recently change his opinion again,Critics will change their opinion according to the situation

O'Neill was right when he said India economy exploding. It did. In fact it shrink in the last 2 years in US$ terms.

Eventually, all hydrocarbons will be exhausted. But 15 years is a long time to develop alternative energy resources.

Indian economy is very big and these aids are just like peauts for us.. but pak economy is surviving now a days with aids and loans.. these economic rise and rupee value rise are all result of this aids and loans from imf and many other countries.. wait and see what will happen after 5 years.. if these money are not invested in productive sectors the condition will become worst.. so comparing india and pak in this thing is foolishness..

nominal gdp is just a figure.. it shrinks does not mean that indian economy shrinked.. indian real gdp growth was. more than 4 .5 percentage last year.. that means indian economy grown.. nominal gdp figure changes every day according to dollar rate.. is that means indian economy is unstable every day.. it is just a figure..
reading about real gdp and nominal gdp will solve the doubt..
