Mahtma gandhi on conversation.....

Was Mahatma Gandhi not secular?

When Gandhi was around, Christian missionaries were at work. In many parts of the country, these missionaries were converting poor and innocent people by offering money. Some even resorted to fraud.

Mahatma Gandhi strongly believed that conversions under the cloak of humanitarian work were immoral. He resented it. Mahatma Gandhi was one of the strongest advocates against the work of missionaries in India. During Gandhi’s time Christian missionaries spread their activities far and wide in India. Some missionaries were converting poor and innocent people by offering money, while some were inducting them into Christianity by fraud. Gandhi believed that proselytisation under the cloak of humanitarian work was immoral. He resented it and openly voiced his opinions on the same. If the lure of money did not work, missionaries would try and brainwash Hindus into believing that they were inferior, and so was their faith. After observing the activities of, such missionaries and their effects on the Hindu converts to Christianity, Gandhi remarked that the neophytes were ashamed of their birth, ancestral religion and their ancestral dress.

The activities of missionaries are still rampant in India and even after so many years, the modus operandi of the missionaries has not changed.

Gandhiji’s message is still relevant for people of this country even today, as it was then, especially for the political class. Gandhi believed that such activities were responsible for Indians losing their national identity

Below mentioned are excerpts of thoughts expressed by Gandhi on various occasions during public discourse. Indians must understand the messages given by a man of conviction, dedication and passion.

I Disbelieve in Conversion

I disbelieve in the conversion of one person by another. My effort should never to be to undermine another’s faith. This implies belief in the truth of all religions and, therefore, respect for them. It implies true humility.

Mahatma Gandhi against Christian Conversions

I Call Myself a Sanatani Hindu

I call myself a Sanatani Hindu, because I believe in the Vedas, the Upanishads, the Puranas, and all that goes by the name of Hindu scripture, and therefore in avataras and rebirth; I believe in the varnashrama dharma in a sense, in my opinion strictly Vedic but not in its presently popular and distorted crude sense; I believe in the protection of cow. I do not disbelieve in murti puja.

(Young India: June 10, 1921)

Why I am Not a Convert

Hinduism as I know it entirely satisfies my soul, fills my whole being. When doubts haunt me, when disappointments stare me in the face, and when I see not one ray of light on the horizon, I turn to the Bhagavad Gita, and find a verse to comfort me; and I immediately begin to smile in the midst of overwhelming sorrow. My life has been full of tragedies and if they have not left any visible and indelible effect on me, I owe it to the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita.

Modi will do sabka saath sabka vikaas and bhagwat will do ghar wapsee. I don't know whyare you clubbing them together.
Because this religious radicalization is creating hurdles in progress of our country since independence. Even now so called Ghar wapse has already started but sabka saath sabka vikaas is still lagging behind somewhere. Radical ideology (of every religion) is an obstacle in sabka saath. There is no sense in doing Ghar wapsee of homeless people.

The ashes of Nathuram Godse have not been sprayed/immersed in a water-body as required by Hindu tradition/religion. They have been preserved in RSS HQ with the declaration that these will be sprayed over R Indus!!! The RSS Chief is just reminding all what they intend to do eventually. In their view BD is still Pakistan. So we are also in the cross-hair.
