Pakistan Is Acquiring New Batch Of Mi35M Gunships From Russia Consisting Of 5 Units

Hi,

I have written about it before on this forum and I will write again---.

Regular gunship helicopter or the air to surface strikes leave a major vacuum in consolidating and making the strike a success---the shocked injured enemy get the time to bury their dead and escape from the scene by the time the troops get dropped in.

The MI35---destroys the target from the air---drops the troops to clean up the those in the arena and supports the troops on the ground from up above at the same time---.

Prevents the enemy from escaping---checks on the dead enemy forces---evacuates any personal in distress or enemy prisoners---.

The most important aspect of the raid is to identify the dead---the wounded and the captured---. That information gives the armed forces control over the situation---.

Great news , small numbers but steady growth
Right approach to buy 3-5 items and over 10 years build a small force
5 is a good number

Extensive usage of indigenous armed/surveillance drones, hovering at different altitudes, is now giving the Turkish joint command centers a much clearer real-time view of the battle grounds in the fight against PKK/YPG etc.!!! Moreover, enemy tactics on the ground can be analyzed and prompt tactical level decision making is now possible to destroy them on-the-fly selecting the optimum systems available to the commanders - drones, choppers, fighters, long-range artillery/rocket etc.!!! Not to mention well coordinated special ops troops movement/deployment!!! As you said, enemy casualties can now be tallied more precisely...

. . .
We didn't use Mi-35s in any counter-terrorist operation. Mi-17s were used to bring security forces to Mumbai during the terrorist attack there.

I think you are mixing it up
u used them as gunship in pathankot atleast! dont give silly comments.

Pathankot was a ground operation. Who the heck told you we used gunships during the mission?

This is based on tactics learnt from fighting militants dug in on hill tops. You go in guns blazing to provide cover for the soldiers to disembark. If Indian had taken this approach in Kargil Indians would not have such a high casualty rate.

We did try. The problem was that Mi-35s and modified Mi-17s weren't capable of flying that high without a load penalty and were being shot at by MANPAD armed enemies.

We didn't have LCH then, which is what forced IAF's Mirage 2000s to be used. Fighter jets normally aren't used in such scenarios, but IAF did an excellent job.

The issue is Pakistan has been training with the US and they have a special unit which uses an Mi-35 for this kind of role. PA SSG liked it and they opted for it and have used it in many operations without major loses hence they have opted for more...It is presumed no more that 20 in all will be procured but in small batches of 4.
The main reasons are hot landing zones.

Before they used to send 3 helicopters to provide fire support to troops landing...

Now they can just sent 1 or max 2 gunships with troops carrying capability..

Abey media toh bakti rehti hai... private media hai. Official release mein sirf transport helicopters ka use bola gaya tha.

Agar tujhe military ops ki jankari nahi to kyon peechhe se galat salat logic nikalta hai? Seedha bol na ki nahi pata and let others pitch in.

Pretty hefty for a special forces unit carrier don't you think? A more agile and lighter option for SSG would be more practical as they need swift movement and rapid infil/exfil options.

They also need protection while flying around and then some times a very heavy air support while on the ground. So why not have a heli that does both?

Why risk lives of some of the best of the best our mothers have given birth to and our nation has spent millions to train just to save some $$$...

While one goes in to offload troops the other provides cover, 2 mi 35 team will make an excellent combination for anti terror or covert opps, couple that with a single male UAV hovering around for calculated strikes and u can take airforce completely out of the equation.

Well the documentary on the attack, the operators from NSG and the pilots who flew the Mi35 say how the choppers were used.
