Iranian ambassador Mehdi Honardoost and Minister of State for Finance and Economic Affairs, Rana Muhammad Afzal Khan, Friday, expressed satisfaction over the ongoing Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations.
As a result of signing of MOU on Five Year Strategic Trade Cooperation Plan between the two countries in March 2016, Pakistan and Iran started negotiating a Free Trade Agreement, in December 2016 with the resolve to timely complete the negotiation process and achieve the objective of enhancing bilateral trade for the betterment of people of both brotherly countries removing all barriers to bilateral trade.
The Third Meeting of the Trade Negotiation Committee (TNC) on Pakistan-Iran Free Trade Area Agreement (PIFTA) was held in November 2017 in Tehran. Both the countries finalized the text of FTA after two days negotiations between the officials and technical experts.
Both parties reviewed the status of the negotiations held so far and the progress made in order to proceed further on all decisions taken earlier by the TNC particularly during the second TNC meeting in Islamabad. Various ways and means were discussed to expedite the issues at hand.
Both parties reviewed the recent trade statistics of bilateral trade and reaffirmed the necessity of formal exchange of trade statistics by their customs authorities regularly in the format which has already been determined.
Ambassador Honardoost and Minister Afzal Khan held a meeting here and agreed on enhancement of bilateral trade between the two brotherly Muslim countries.
Keen interest was evinced in the Banking Sector and both sides expressed their desire to enhance cooperation in it. Besides, commonality of viewpoints was found on various national and international issues and it was affirmed that both sides will cooperate in all sectors.

Negotiations for the sake of negotiation :enjoy: . which one of us is more greedy ?:D

Our biggest and latest experience failed ( gas deal ) . Iran has one of the biggest gas reserves in the world on the other hand Pakistan is our biggest neighbor so capacity to expand our relationship is there . I have no idea why we waste so much time :D .

These steps are moving towards FTA that needs to be negotiated well. Regarding Gas deal it is full go the problem in Gas deal was sanctions now that Russia has signed deal with Pakistan the Irani Gas will come in. Plus China is funding that Gas pipeline. For Iran it was to transfer from the border but for Pakistan we needed a lot of money to take it across Balochistan

Lack of trust.
It is not lack of trust but FTA always need to be well negotiated those are always issues for FTA. Plus we need to negotiate transits charges with Iran to central Asia and Russian.

.
Proper move :enjoy:

We need Free Trade agreement with Iran / China / Turkey / Russia the more the happier

Brother Iran will help Brother Pakistan just like it helped in 1971 and other wars.

In Tehran there was recently a million march calling for Kashmir to be included in Pakistan along with countless other support it has given during the course of WoT.

.
If Iran makes it no transit charges to central Asia for Pakistan in return Pakistan can give Iran no transit charges to China

.
Pakistan always talks about bilateral trade. It should learn from other countries and along with trade it should talk about visa on arrival/visa liberalization issues for citizens of both countries. It rarely brings up visa issues with other countries. If iran had visa free with us I would have loved to visit it in future. Iran has visa free reciprocity with other countries why not us?

If i am not wrong Pakistan also makes it difficuilt for foreigners to visit us? Why not introduce e- visas?

Pakistan should give it for free. No need to ask for returns from Islamic brother of Iran.

hehe brother are brother but Paksitan needs that free transit to Central Asia so not giving any thing free. Although Iran is brother but lets agree to make it free both ways.

no dude
that would be so unislamic to ask a brother something in return.
we should give free access to Iran just like we promised never to drill for oil in Balochistan. to be honest what are you trying to trade with? the whole industrial sector lies in ruins and we barely can produce enough for us and you want to trade? sounds totally like a plan.

but as i said. islamic brothers do not ask their brothers for return..

furthermore it is our islamic duty to put Afghanistan, Iran and Saudi Arabia first and Pakistan last.

Haji sahib Pakistan needs a production based economy not remittance based. Saudis are decreasing foreign work force so Pakistan needs to create jobs at home and for that we need to reach central Asia, eastern Europe and Russia. Pakistan produces mostly average priced products and to export them we need markets with good population. Saudia and UAE are not countries with big population so we need to reach central Asia and eastern Europe Russia to reduce our trade deficit on the other hand Iran needs to reach China to tap it oil market so this deal is a win win for both countries.

.
Lack of trust.

During the Greece uprisings in 2009-2011 we offered more and cheaper oil exports to Greece while there was news about Greece want to sell her islands :undecided: . I don't think we care too much about payment for oil/gas during difficult times .
