TEHRAN – Pakistan and Iran have agreed to focus on enhancing bilateral economic cooperation during the seventh round of annual bilateral political consultations here in the Iranian capital between the two neighbours.


Foreign Affairs Secretary Aizaz Ahmed and Iran’s Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Ibrahim Rahimpour jointly chaired the meeting. All areas of bilateral cooperation including political, security, economic and culture were discussed during the meeting.


Secretary Aizaz highlighted Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's vision of a peaceful neighbourhood for economic development and prosperity of the people of the region. He also underlined Pakistan's desire to further strengthen existing bonds of friendship and good neighbourly relations with Iran.

The two sides also exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interest. Both the sides agreed that a peaceful and stable Afghanistan was vital for stability of the region. Earlier, Aizaz met deputy head of Supreme National Security Council who appreciated existing relations between the two states.
