India in start tried her best to Grab land in East Pakistan. It must be noted that many border areas of EAST Pakistan and India were not fully marked at that time.India was only trying to lay claim over any usable LAND in Tough and Jungle areas. Each time she tried and failed. This account is of 1958 when East Pakistan Rifles kicked intruders out by force.

Let us rewind the clock back to the tumultuous year of 1958. Border skirmishes with India along the periphery of East Pakistan are a norm. The border security forces of both countries continue to trade volleys of bullets on frequent basis. It is a constant contest of hide and seek between territory grasping Indians and territory denying Pakistanis. But matters have come to a head in the Jungles of Patharia, in the border District of Sylhet.
Location:
The Location of Skirmish was Tehsil Brahmanbaria(Now District) part of District of Sylhet.in area Akhura near village Lakshmi Pur.
Situation Built Up:
Indian forces have captured as much as 20 square miles of Pakistani territory, in the thick of the jungle, in an unprovoked and clandestine manner. Stunned and flabbergasted at the temerity of the Indians, Government of Pakistan lodges official protest with Government of India against this unprovoked act of hostility and naked aggression. The General Officer Commanding of Dhaka also remonstrates with Border Security officials of India against this brazen usurpation of Pakistani territory. But all our remonstrances fall upon deaf ears. The lack of concrete response from Pakistani side further emboldens the hegemonic Indians to stir up trouble in another section of the border area, near the remote village of Lakshmi Pur, in Tehsil Brahmanbaria of East Pakistan.

In flagrant violation of a treaty signed between Governments of Pakistan and India, whereby the border forces of both countries were to refrain from erecting any new military posts near the border without the prior consent of the other party, the Indian BSF erected a new military post just a few meters away from the poles demarcating the border. The sudden appearance of heavily armed Indian soldiers right on the border, in violation of a sovereign treaty, sent a tremor through the Muslim majority border village of Lakshmi Pur. A mass exodus of Muslim population from the village to the Tehsil headquarters of Brahmanbaria ensued. This drastic turn of events left Government of Pakistan with no choice but to take decisive action against unprovoked Indian aggression.
Pakistani Response:
Evil Pakistanis along with there Bengali Razkaars decided to respond for EAST PAKISTAN about which several intellectuals claimed Pakistan wasn't caring at all for East Pakistani Territory.

The then Commander in Chief of Pakistan Army, General Muhammad Ayub Khan ordered the General Officer Commanding of Dhaka, Major General Umrao Khan to retaliate with full might and snuff out that border post from the face of the earth. As if the brilliant commander was waiting for exactly such an order, the plucky GOC immediately set about mounting a telling response to the Indians. Within a matter of few hours, he assembled an attack company of East Pakistan Rifles(Equal to BGB in role of today) under the command of Major Tufail Muhammad, a former instructor at Infantry School Quetta and a master wielder of small arms. The detachment was comprised of Bengali and West Pakistani soldiers in equal measure. A separate battalion of Frontier Force regiment led by Colonel Bashir Ahmed Khan was tasked to act as the quick response, back up force in case the attack went haywire.

The village of Lakhsmi Pur was located five miles from the railway Junction of Akhora, East of Dhaka. The only viable mode of transportation to that village was by the train. The soldiers of the attack parties bought the tickets to Sylhet via Akhora Junction and mounted the train. In the pitched dark of a classic Bengali night, the train made its way to Akhora Junction. At this point, the lights of the train were switched off and Major Tufail Muhammad himself entered the engine room. Around five miles past the Akhora Junction, the train was slowly brought to a halt at the orders of Major Tufail. The whole detachment of soldiers alighted from the train in a muted and noiseless manner. The quick reaction, back up team of Frontier Force regiment waited in the rear to mount a response if the attack was repulsed.

Major Tufail Muhammad along with his company of East Pakistan Rifles started advancing towards the border post.
Battle:
It was around 3 AM, with sun rise still a good few hours away, that our valiant soldiers crept within a few feet of the heavily fortified and heavily manned post of the Indians. Sensing trouble, the two Indian machine guns started emitting hails of lava at the attackers. The very first volley of bullets hit its mark and Major Tufail was hit square in his stomach. He fell to the ground and was badly injured. His second in command Jamadar Azam Khan also got riddled by bullets and embraced martyrdom at the spot.

But can ever bullets stop the charge of a man of faith? In spite of being heavily wounded by vicious gunfire of the enemy, Major Tufail unleashed his most masterly skill with small arms. He hurled a grenade at the machine gunner near him and despite pitched darkness he hit his mark with surgical precision and silenced the machine gun forever. He ordered his soldiers to sit tight in their positions while he went himself crawled forward towards the other gunner who could have mowed down a good number of our soldiers. Braving a hail of bullets, mortally wounded with several gun shots, the gallant Major managed to creep near the gun post and hurled another grenade at it. Once again, he hit the bull’s eye and the gunner perished in a heap of smoke. At that moment he ordered an all out attack. His soldiers leapt at the Indians with monstrous ferocity and after a few minutes of fierce hand to hand combat, they over ran the Indian post and captured it.

The mortally wounded Major Tufail, in his deathly fatigue spotted an enemy figure running away from the post in the dark of the night. In an instant he took off his battle helmet and flung it at the fleeing enemy, hitting him squarely in the face. Then in what could only be described as a superhuman last act of valor by a dying man, he felled the enemy by entangling his legs with his own. The enemy could not escape. A moment later, Pakistani soldiers captured the fleeing figure. He turned out to be an unexpected but a most prized catch. He was the serving Inspector General of Indian Police of the State of Tripura. On the evening before the night raid, he had come to pay an official visit to the newly erected border post. To his utter misfortune he chose to stay overnight at the spot. It was the first and the till date the only time, that such a high ranking Police officer was ever caught by the rival army.

The battle was over within ten minutes. Two machine gunners of the Indians were killed, five soldiers were wounded, while five others were captured unscathed. The rest of the Indian soldiery ran away in fright, using the dark of the night to its advantage. A huge cache of weapons was also captured by Pakistani soldiers. Apart from Azam Khan, the second in command of Major Tufail, who got martyred on the spot, not a single casualty was suffered by our soldiers.

The magnificently brave Major Tufail Muhammad reported back to his General Officer Commanding on radio set, in words which have since immortalized him in the annals of military history , “Sir I have done my job according to your orders”. The General was thoroughly moved by the stirring words of his valiant officer. Major Tufail Muhammad was evacuated to CMH Commila, where he embraced martyrdom the next morning.

The battle was a rare demonstration of effective night time warfare. During those times, night time attacks were considered to be very risky and unorthodox affairs. But Major Tufail Muhammad Shaheed mounted a miraculous attack on a well defended post, in the dark of the night and gave an astounding account of professional skill when he silenced two machine guns despite being mortally wounded by them.

The stupendous victory of Pakistan Army restored the confidence of the Muslim community of the village of Lakshmi Pur, and a day later they started moving back to their homes. The stunned and petrified Indian Forces vacated the 20 square mile territory of East Pakistan in the Jungles of Patharia. GOC of Dhaka, Major General Umrao Khan recommended Tufail Muhammad Shaheed for the highest military award of Nishan I Haider, for his exemplary show of bravery and professionalism. His recommendation was accepted by GHQ and Major Tufail became the second recipient of the coveted Nishan I Haider.

In order to commemorate the magnificent valor of Tufail Muhammad Shaheed. The people of Brahmanbaria rose magnificently to the occasion, raising over Rs 200,000 to construct a Tufail Memorial Health Dispensary at Akhora. They also instituted an annual Tufail Memorial Football Tournament.

Height of idiocy just to mop up some fake pride after years of humiliation from occupation of siachen to Kargil.

There was no BSF in 1958

"1965 India’s borders with Pakistan were manned by the State Police Battalion. Pakistan attacked Sardar Post, Chhar Bet and Beria Bet on 9 April, 1965 in Kutch. This exposed the inadequacy of the State Armed Police to cope with armed aggression due to which the Government of India felt the need for a specialized centrally controlled Border Security Force, which would be armed and trained to man the International Border with Pakistan. As a result of the recommendations of the Committee of Secretaries, the Border Security Force came into existence on 01 Dec 1965, and Shri K F Rustamji was the first chief and founding father"

This is how you treat your martyrs .... by writing fake citations and non existent organizations on their medals, even if i believe that this skirmish took place the way a "blog" describes could you share any pics or name of that IG ?

In any case it was most probably a state constables armed with .303 as according to police act,you don't need a daring night attack to evict few untrained constables and suffer casualty.
