Featured Pakistan: Hopes Rise For Cheap and Abundant Electricty

Next in line (hopefully):

- Bunji hydroelectric power plant - 7,100 MW
- Thakot hydroelectric power plant - 4,927 MW
- Tarbela Ext 5 - 1420 MW
- Mahl hydroelectric power plant - 640 MW
- Akhori Dam - 600 MW
- Tarbela and Mangla old units refurbishment - 600 MW
- Balakot hydroelectric power plant - 300 MW

Total - 15,587 MW of cheap and clean electricity without a need for imported fuel. Along with 7.6 MAF of additional water storage.

imf influence will never allow govt to provide cheap electricity as imf wants to destroy our industry and dictate govt to devise policies which restrict industrial growth so we remain dependent on their bailout

IMF is a death trap for any country and zionist-america uses the International Monetary Fund and World Bank to punish those countries who do not keep in-line with Western (zionist) policies. Argentina, Venezuela, Iran, Sudan, Yemen and Somalia are good examples of zionist-american economic warfare.

Pakistan MUST get out of IMF/WB as soon as possible and ensure that the constitution is amended to prohibit any future loans from IMF/WB or any other western zionist country or conglomerate.

Once the economy is debt free, Pakistan and Pakistanis must focus on building a healthy and robust Gold Reserve.

That is one part of the story. The other part is that IMF also wants to dictate the Pak economy and politics. It is in Pakistan's best interest to swiftly improve economic indicators and thank IMF for its support. Easier said than done, but that is the job of the government.
It is not the IMF's job to micromanage a government and it's fiscal issues. However, if they want money from the IMF, they're happy to oblige considering you surrender policy making to the IMF. That is how the world works. IMF can't save you from an inept government.

The new government is doing much better than previous governments. I have high hopes that Pakistan is going to stabalise its economy.

We could have produced 60,000 MW from hydro. That is literally more than twice our peak demand. Imagine nearly free power that would have revolutionized our economy. Instead our governments since the 1960s have focused on thermal power.
I am not sure how 60,000 MW is twice our demand, to be 1st world country we should have 440,000 mw power capacity minimum for 220M people...

Share of nuclear needs to go up to 20 percent
Nuclear reactors are very expensive, I thought about it too, 4 1000mw reactors for Baluchistan but that could cost $30B+ DEBT would be too much, rather solar and wind are the cheapest options now...

More local coal and hydro. With what might be a permanent collapse of the oil price, more hydrocarbons won't be the end of the world.

Yes.
The ideal person who could have done hydro power work was General Zia ul Haq!! He ruled with an iron fist from 1977-1988--a full 1/4th of Pakistan's history by then!! He had crushed internal dissent, had strong American backing, and of course had the military power. He should have built the Kalabagh or Bhasha Dam. But, No, that myopic proto-Taliban idiot was busy courting Sindhi separatist leaders like G.M. Sayyed (made multiple trips to GMS home), was more worried about the lengths of the beards and trousers...

Exactly, he could have done so much but he was an extremist and wanted to make Pakistan like current Iran state. Thank God he's gone. We have never had a good leader in this country. Alot might say Ayub Khan but what he did with Fatimah Jinnah was unforgiveable... also he only made elite get richer in the country... the gap b/w the poor and the rich was widening too much.
