Pakistan has to react swiftly to changing regional situation: Khawaja Asif

Winds of change anyone? Seems higher echelions of Pakistan's policy establishment has sensed the mood in the neighbourhood and beyound.

@Kaptaan : I know we disagree on the subject on how the changed mood in the international arena has or will force Pakistan to change course but by judging Pak media and noises coming out of FO one has the impression that there is understanding of the seriousness of the situation at the moment.

If I were to bet I would say that the Tali project is finally coming to an end sooner rather than later :)

Hate to tell you this, but nothing's changing. Instead this is more of a signal of the opposite, the mood in Pakistan is completely disregard the US and their endless war. The mood inside the army has been since 01 to look after our own interests first, the top echelons you speak of even regret having complied with US requests and pressure in the past. Now the mood is to look at the end game, evaluate where we'll be and to pursue our interests a bit more brazenly. The taliban aren't going anywhere buddy, and take it from me that Afghanistan's only endgame is with them part of some political settlement, in the interim, you can keep them at bay by keeping the country perpetually at war and occupied, or failing both those things you might first see the taliban gain even more strength, but the endgame is the same.

We seem to have a "i am stating the obvious" type defence minister.

Disregard? What you are saying is akin to burying your head in the sand! Ignore all you want, the moment they put Pak on state sponsor of terror, sanction your institutions with habib bank being kicked out of the US being a teaser, that will wake you up?

There are two parties to the equation, in this case multiple parities, saying I won't play ball is like shooting yourself in the foot.

Check my post from the South China Morning article on how China is losing patience with Pakistan, with BRICS communique being an obvious output.

The US does not give two shits about Afghanistan, or Pakistan for that matter. The new US administration isn't new at all, behind Trump are the same republicans who've controlled US foreign policy for years, the CIA hasn't changed, the pentagon hasn't, the neocons haven't. And they're not that interested in peace in Afghanistan in my opinion.

I can discuss this at length with you later, I'm short on time. And before you reply, know that I fully accept the charge against Pakistan that it like others has been playing a double-game, more than that, I'd say it's been playing a triple-game at the least, but there's sound reasoning behind it albeit questionable morality of methods.
