There are counterfeit drugs and spices, meat of dead animals being sold and served in restaurants, pollution, consanguineous marriages and the carnivorous diet. Pakistan has some of the same problems as in India too but the Indians do not have higher cancer rates as the Pakistanis. So obviously Indians point out the Muslim consanguineous marriages and the carnivorous diet. Some other Muslim countries also have the consanguineous marriages and the carnivorous diet but not the high cancer rates as Pakistan. May be Pakistan has more contaminated food and drugs sold by criminals distributors and the combines factors has caused higher cancer rates.

I will look into what is the cause of cancer in Pakistani females at younger ages, let me talk to my superiors... Very saddening to be honest.

BRCA mutation is common among semitic people ironically
The mutation doenst always result in cancer but is a marker....Infact About BRCA:

Hundreds of different types of mutations in these genes have been identified, some of which have been determined to be harmful, while others as benign or of still unknown or uncertain impact. Harmful mutations in these genes may produce a hereditary breast-ovarian cancer syndrome in affected persons. Only 5-10% of breast cancer cases in women are attributed to BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutations, but the impact on women with the gene mutation is more profound. Women with harmful mutations in either BRCA1 or BRCA2 have a risk of breast cancer that is about five times the normal risk, and a risk of ovarian cancer that is about ten to thirty times normal

Basically the marker indicates a risk not a confirmation....DNA is DNA not until it is expressed can anything be concluded

This is disturbing

The mammogram I agree with. OCP, the new ones have no extended trials through which you can make this claim
well,,,u shud agree wid self breast examination too,,,,its easy n effective.
as for ocp's,,,i read it somewhere,,dont remeber the names of the drugs.
thn again,,even the old ones r practically safe,,,,they just increase the risk of cancer,,,everyhng from pollution to junk food does that...neway only susecptible females shud worry about that.with a huge population problm
we(Indians atleast) cannot efford to be too cautious abt ocps.use of ocps has to be n is promoted aggressivly.
also look at the flip side,,,,take ovarian cancer,,,,repeated ovulation>> ovarian cancer,,,use ocp>>less risk of ovarian cancer.
ofcourse if the female is pregnant(no ovulation)for most of her fertile life risk decreases too,,,but thn we font want that.

According to a meta-analysis in the Cochrane Collaboration, two large trials in Russia and Shanghai found no beneficial effects of screening by breast self-examination "but do suggest increased harm in terms of increased numbers of benign lesions identified and an increased number of biopsies performed." They concluded, "At present, screening by breast self-examination or physical examination cannot be recommended."[2]

Although breast self-examination increases the number of biopsies performed on women, and thus revenue for the breast cancer industry[citation needed], it does not reducemortality from breast cancer. In a large clinical trial involving more than 260,000 female Chinese factory workers, half were carefully taught by nurses at their factories to perform monthly breast self-exam, and the other half were not. The women taught self-exam detected more benign (normal or harmless lumps) or early-stage breast disease, but equal numbers of women died from breast cancer in each group.[3]

Because breast self-exam is not proven to save lives, it is no longer routinely recommended by health authorities for general use.[4][5] It may be appropriate in women who have a particularly high risk of developing breast cancer. Some charitable organizations, whose donations depend on promoting fear of breast cancer, still promote this technique as a one-size-fits-all, universal screening approach, even in the low-risk women who are most likely to be harmed by unnecessary invasive follow-up procedures.[6] Among groups promoting evidence-based medicine, awareness of breast health and familiarity with one's own body is typically promoted instead of self-exams.

They alter the normal hormonal cycles thus lead to more chances of mutations

Methinks it's to do with genetics, afterall Pakistanis are genetically distinct between those west of us and those east of us, most diseases are hereditary imo

is it not better to know that u got a patholgical lump,,,even if its benign,,,,,I feel, after becoming aware of the lump,,she will consult a professional,,n he/she will decide if invasive procedure is required.
if I recall correctly,,,most common tumors of breast r benign,,,fibroadenoma ,thus not fatal,,,...so its not just the question of saving lives,,coz she wont die in the first place

The issue is their usefulness which needs studies which have been done. As doctors our job is not to think but follow tried and tested paths and improve where one needs to
