To me the entire world is a fascinating place. We fail to recognize that we are, above all, accidents of birth. We fail to recongize that had we been in 'the others' shoes then we would probably behave like 'them'. We conflate our accidents to birth to seek a comfort zone. We are inherently prejudiced...
And I don't deny that I too am a victim of prejudices. "All too human", as my patron-saint Nietzsche said.
Coming back to the topic, I think I can certainly relate to Pakistan's rich culture; the non-maintaining Pakistaniat.com site will tell you a lot about Pakistan, for example.
It's not just that because I was born and raised in Pakistan into my 20's, though that would help to understand a large, complex social milieu like Pakistan's. But, I think, having lived in America for 20+ years in relative isolation from the 'Desis', which afforded me some kind of 'deeper' understanding of the American culture (it helps to be chastised and learn amongst the natives), I can say with a fair amount of justified self-assurance that there are aplenty 'right' with Pakistan. The rich-history certainly helps but the generosity of people is great as well.
More later...may be.
