Pakistan has indirectly refused to allow China to establish an air and sea military base in Gwadar.

The Pakistani military and senior government leaders have repeatedly stated on different occasions that they will not allow foreign troops to establish military bases in Pakistan. Obviously, this means that China is not allowed to establish military bases in Pakistan as well.

As a staunch ally of Pakistan, China has established China's first military base overseas in Djibouti, Africa. The People’s Liberation Army’s support base in Djibouti is the first overseas base of the Chinese PLA. It is a port-type comprehensive support base. It is mainly used for replenishment of the army and naval forces, and provides logistical support for the Navy’s Gulf of Aden escort and African peacekeepers. The base joint advance group consists of officers and men of the Army.

The first contract is 10 years, and China needs to pay $21 million to Djibouti per year as a lease fee.

Although China has other potential options, including Kenya, Seychelles, Maldives, Sri Lanka, etc., Pakistan is the country with the best relations with China. Pakistan refuses to allow China to establish an air and sea military base in Gwadar, making it lost every year more than $20 million in revenue (which is believed to be paid $30 million to Pakistan each year) also may cast doubts on China’s status as an ally of Pakistan.

The Chinese side does not mind Pakistan's establishment of a reciprocal military base in China.

Why does China needs a military base in Pakistan when in an event of conflict, Pakistan would offer Chinese ships to dock and use Pakistani base as an ally. The first mistake Pakistan made was to offer US bases which strained our relations with the soviets to an extent that the soviets literally threaten us with nuclear strike, than 71 debacle when the soviets openly supported India. Than Pakistan joined west in defeating soveits in Afghanistan. Point being its never a good idea to host foreign force on local grounds.

We can have strategic defence pact which will allow Chinese bros to operate from our facility in case of war .
But no military bases in pakistan even for turkey.

Not possible, don't forget US........ Pakistan will never get go ahead approval from the US. Daddy is watching, Sir

Lol, if CPEC plan actually gets realized, and Pakistan becomes the primary gateway of Chinese trade and commerce from Middle East and beyond—guess what?

Pakistan itself will become the “supply line” of China. Who in their right mind will ever attack the “supply lines” of the most major global economic and military power in coming decades?

The window is closing and indians (irrelevant) and “others” (more relevant) know this too.

Pakistan will literally become invincible to any foreign invasion if CPEC realizes its true goal in next 2 decades.

Not now may be in few years or Pakistan ideally should desire to get her own Navy strong enough to protect Pakistan as well her allies ( in this case China ) on her own. 8 subs contract to China is pointing out in this direction.

I do not see any problem in defence cooperation agreements including intelligence sharing, joint operation, providing logistic facilities at ports and airports, may even extend to a small base. We are friends with aligned national interest, should cooperate. US wont approve of it but do we still analyze that while making our foreign policy? I don't think so!! The events of past year or so have clarified that US and Pakistan are no longer close allies, if US want to have a say in whether we give Chinese a base or not, they should start acting as allies.

@araz @Rashid Mahmood @HRK what do you people think?

USA is now Dady of India...

Nope, We are getting S-400 and Oil from Iran... Even few more deals are gonna to sigh with Russia.

By the way, We should be keep on topic. Thank you

I think it should be fine, if China really wants a base and if it bails out Pakistan to pay the dues without going to IMF ,I don't think Pakistan can say no to China .but the question is does China want a military base ?

Pakistan is located in Eastern Hindian ocean, China already have Naval Base there in Djibouti. For what have another base in eastern hindian ocean?

I think it's more effective to have another Naval Base in Western Side of Hindian ocean, like in Myanmar. Or maybe in Central Hindian ocean, like in Maldives (Especially because Indian want to invade them yesterday, and thankfully China's Naval Task Force Detterent save them from indian) I think China need to Protect Maldives Sovereignety from Indian encroachment with establish a naval base there.

I believe Pakistan Armed Forces is more capable than Indian soldier to defend Pakistani soil. And if any emergency situation, China's Land and Air Forces unit can easily move to pakistan, and China's Naval Forces already there in Djibouti-only a slip away from Pakistan.

Another base in South-east Africa like Tanzania or Mozambique would be more effective too.
