I think Pakistan has more than a fair chance to get into the semifinals in cricket world cup (cwc) 2019.

Why?

Please look at the standings:

As the standings right now a team needs 12 point to be sure to get to the semi final rounds.

Break down of the situation:
  • Australia has qualified to the semi final round since they have 12 points
  • India is almost there BUT need to win atleast ONE more match. Their 3 matches are against England (30th June), Bangladesh (2nd July) and Sirilanka (6th July)
  • New Zealand with 11 points also needs one win to qualify from their last two (though) matches against Australia (29th June) and England (3rd July)
  • England with 8 points need to win BOTH their last matches against India (30th June) and New Zealand (3rd July) to get past the 11 point mark
  • Bangladesh with 7 points and two matches to go also needs to win both their matches against India (2nd July) and Pakistan (5th July)
  • Pakistan also with 7 points and two remaining matches need to win both the remaining matches against Afghanistan (29th June) and Bangladesh (5th July)
  • Sirilanka can also qualify to the semi finals with 6 points but STILL 3 matches remaining. They need to win all their matches against South Africa (today) West Indies (1st July) and India (6th July)
  • West Indies, South Africa and Afghanistan can all order the plane tickets - they cannot what so ever qualify to the semi finals in this CWC

So the tournament is still very much open regarding which team on the paper still can qualify to the semi finals.

Regarding Pakistan then they will must win their last two games against Afghanistan and Bangladesh to have a chance of getting into the semi finals. And they need to win big because it can come down to net RR.

Scenarios where Pakistan qualifies to semi finals in CWC- provided Pakistan win both matches:
  1. England lose one match
  2. England wins both matches, then it comes down to net RR IF:
    • India looses all three matches (unlikely)
    • New Zealand looses all two matches (more likely)
If 2 happens then we will again be the team that went to the semi finals instead of New Zealand - wasn´t it also what happened in 1992 :azn:

.
Yep.

1. They should be able to beat AFG & BD easily.
2. Dont see ENG beating both IND & NZ.
3. Dont see NZ beating OZ

Regards

Why are you guys discounting Sri lanka out? They got 6 points if they win all 3 they will go through the semis. India is the only hurdle in their way. They will easily get West Indies and South Africa in Current form out

Here’s How Pakistan Won’t Make It to the Semis Even After Winning All Matches, it will not qualify under these conditions
Posted 12 mins ago by Sajawal Rehman

As the group stage nears its end, the fight for the top 4 spots is becoming more and more interesting. Pakistan currently stands at 6th place with just one point away from the number 4 spot.

India, New Zealand, England, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka are fighting for the remaining three semi-final berths, and the tournament is currently wide open.

Here are the key remaining matches which are going to decide the fate of the teams:

  • India to play England, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka
  • England to play India and New Zealand
  • Bangladesh to play India and Pakistan
  • Sri Lanka to play South Africa, West Indies, and India
  • Pakistan to play Afghanistan and Bangladesh
  • New Zealand to play Australia and England
Both India and New Zealand are currently at 11 points each and a win or even a draw will most likely put them through. However, the Kiwis are up against England and Australia in their remaining two matches, which may yet spring a surprise or two for their fans.

India is unbeaten until now and they have three matches left to secure the top 4 berths. It will be a matter of where they finish in the top 4 rather than whether they will end up there.

Without further ado, let’s have a look at how Pakistan can and cannot qualify for the semis.

Qualification Scenarios

Currently, there are two ways Pakistan can make it to the top 4.

The first one is that Pakistan wins both matches and Bangladesh, England and Sri Lanka lose one of their remaining matches. It would mean that Pakistan will finish ahead of these teams with 11 points, finishing fourth on the points table.

The second scenario is that Pakistan wins one of the matches and England, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka lose two of their matches. Even if Bangladesh wins just one match with an inferior net run rate than Pakistan, Sarfaraz’s men will book their semi-finals ticket.

Chances of Pakistan Not Qualifying for Semi-Finals

Even if Pakistan wins the remainder of matches and ends up on 11 points, even then there’s no guarantee of a semi-finals berth. There are two scenarios for that case as well:

  • If England wins their two matches, New Zealand wins one of their matches and India wins two, the three will cement their places in top 4.
  • The other case would be that if Sri Lanka wins all of their matches and India and New Zealand win two and one matches respectively, the three teams will end up in top 4.
So, first things first, Pakistan needs to win the remaining two matches before we jump to any conclusions. Until then, the tournament promises plenty of excitement.

Note: These scenarios do not take into account washed out matches. The scenarios would change significantly in case of rain in any of these key games.

Sri lanka has no chance considering how they are performing against south africa today
South Africa: 125/1 * (22.5/50 ov, tgt 204)

I wrote in another thread, yesterday and this morning before the match that SA will beat SL.
SA will play for pride and will defeat SL. It has happened.
I also wrote that the only problem for Pakistan not qualify is England, and off course Pakistan winning its two matches.
IF England wins both its matches, which look highly unlikely, we are doomed, otherwise I say 90% certainty if we win our 2 matches. The examination start tomorrow 10.30 am.

I already said yesterday, even if Bangladesh defeat India it is no issue, Their last match is against us, as long as we beat them we are through.
Sri Lanka is a bit of a problem, if they win all their 3 matches they would be on 12 points and Pakistan on 11, they would be out. But I doubt it, forget India, they have next match against South Africa, who will play for pride, it would be difficult for Sri Lanka to win that match.

Our real problem is England it has to lose one of its match. Their matches are against India and NZ.
If India lose against them that would be a bigger problem for Pakistan, because by winning these two matches England would be on 12 and Pakistan on 11.

If you ask me, Pakistan would be in Semis no matter what now, provided they win against Afghanistan and more importantly against BD. Pakistan shouldn't worry about anything else, win you qualify. Things are hugely in Pakistan favor now.
IT would be difficult for England to win against NZ because NZ could potentially be out too.
