Pakistan hampering trade with India: Afghanistan

Well India and Afghan govt. should tell all the people that their jobs are in danger as Pakistan is hampering it. Propaganda time. :D

Terming its Chabahar port as an important and strategic project that can promote ties, Iran today this would also help in deepening bilateral relations.

"We view the relations with India as favourable. The leaders of the two countries aim at promoting the ties," Saeed Jalili, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran, said here.

He said there was great potential for deepening ties and that India and Iran are facing common interests and threats.

"This means making use of the potential of facilities of the Chabahar port to Indians goods to various parts of the world... North-South corridor is one of the most important project, a strategic project which can promote mutual relations and multi-lateral ties," said Jalili who is here on a three-day official visit during which he will hold talks with National Security Advisor Shivshankar Menon.

India's interest in the Iranian port is not only to get a direct access to Central Asia but also to facilitate import of minerals from Afghanistan.

Tehran plans to expand the port in five phases and to ramp up its capacity to 20 million tonnes by 2020.

Jalili also praised praised India's contribution to Non- Aligned Movement and noted that the ties between the two countries are rooted in history.

What was intresting is that Shivshankar took part in this meeting and he is our National Security Advisor, do not worry we not sitting by doing nothing we are expanding ties with Iran but we have to be discreet as the yanks are keeping close eye.

Afghan nation cannot survive without Pakistani trade & products being brought in

If Afghanistan tries something, it will be finished... Afghan govt only control Kabul

Why ain't we using the route through Iran? Then what's the use of developing Chabahar port?

1. expensive

2. Chahbahar is NOt all weather port

3. Indian new relations with US also plays into some big step with Iran

4. India wants strategic foothold in Pakistan as well to harm Pakistan so a land route will be first step

.
Considering the state of Pakistans economy which I was just reading about on BBC there is a article today, it is in their benefit to expand trade ties with India and the majority of Pakistanis wish this also but there are some hawks that will not want this.

Of course its in our benefit to trade with India but none of that 'benefit' is going to accrue to Pakistan till those Non-Tariff barriers are there & continue to hamper commerce to the benefit of India !

I think the 4th point is most probable...

I hope they - the Afghans - then do something stupid so that we can close the border for a few months & let them know, once more, that playing hardball with Pakistan doesn't really work !

.
Iran may play a role of competitor with Pakistan in the Afghan playground. But if India can reach an agreement with Iran, Pakistan can do the same.

Afghanis will be eating dirt, grass, and rock if Pakistan closes border trade

.
Look even trade with India by some industrialists is harming the local market and specially common people. Our exporters send flour and other items to Afghanistan even if we need these at local market leading to shortage in the local market resultantly the common folk here is forced to get these commodities at high rate adding to further inflation.

On the other hand allowing Indian goods through our land route means we are going to lose market there so why should we give benefit to India at expense of our trade

That line is straight out of a difa e pakistan statement but ask the Pakistan confederation of commerce they say otherwise. You got a massive market at your doorstep with 1.2 billion people to export to if you do not wish to take this opportunity to expand trade ties sure we will suffer but so will your people.

The Americans tried to bypass Pakistan in the Afghan Playground & guess what 10 years down the lane, trillions spent & thousands of ours, theirs & Afghans dead, they're doing what we asked them to do in '01 - Talk to the Taliban !

So its a little hard to bypass Pakistan in Afghanistan !

We granted you MFN status ages back which you failed to reciprocate back to us, we need a little give and take on both sides.

dont flatter yourself. Afghans will find the way out through illegal means which will hit Pakistani economy badly and with the current economic condition its not wrong to say that if such things happen, pakistani will be eating grass and rocks.
