Pakistan Getting MI 28 and Surface to Air Missiles from Russia?

its not a question of new found love with Russia. Its a fact that Russian air defence weapons are quite good. Look at the expanse of Russian territory. It has to have an effective defence system to control its air space.

There are many SA series NATO designated SAM systems that no other country has produced.

Just when Americans thought their flights over USSR using their high altitude U2 planes was secure, their plane was brought down by a SA-2 Guideline.

Well if we can get 12 batteries of each it would be massive boost to our Air Defencr

The Chinese option is still probably the strongest option.

WHerefrom those numbers? No wish lists pls, just fact

Well looking at the territory we must cover , 1-2 batteries is not gona cut it we need
30 Of each at least to protect 10 -15 cities

Mi-35 30 Units
Mi-28NE 30 Units
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Pantsir-S1 (SA-22) 30 Units
Tor-M2KM (SA-15) 30 Units / Buk-M2 (SA-17) 30 Units

Lets look at logical explanation first the helicopters

Mi-35 30 Units
Mi-28NE 30 Units

I imagine , we can split 20 Helicopters , to West to fight Terrorism , and move 40 assets to stay with Military Units (Special Groups or Stationed at Military bases) to fighter bigger badder terrorism

A modest figure , not asking too much here

Pantsir-S1 (SA-22) 30 Units
Tor-M2KM (SA-15) 30 Units / Buk-M2 (SA-17) 30 Units

60 Batteries , lets say we assign (2 Batteries per city) , we can secure 30 Pakistani cities

IDEAL PACKAGE: (If we took out credit / Loan)

If I was General !!! and you know I would make a good General , I would get this package

Tor Unit Cost = $750 Million (30 Units)
SA-17 "GRIZZLY" (BUK-M2) = $750 Million (10 Units @ 75 Million a Pop)
Pantsir = $390 Million (30 Units)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
$2.3 Billion Deal Complete Sweet Dream at Night Package
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mi-35 = $600 Million (30 Units)
Mi-28 = $450 Million (30 Units)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
$ 1.0 Billion The bye bye Terror Package and every thing in between
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

REALISTIC PACKAGE: (The Doable Package)

Looking at the Cost figures , from Financial Perspective this is a package we might get

Tor-M2KM (SA-15) = $250 Million (10 Units @ 25 Mil a pop)
SA-17 "GRIZZLY" (BUK-M2) = $225 Million (3 Units @ 75 Mil a pop)
Pantsir = $286 Million (22 Units @ 13 Mil a pop)

About 34 SAM batteries 50% of what we need

MI-35 = $400 Million (20 Units @ 20 Mil a pop)
MI-28 = $300 Million (20 Units @ 15 Million a pop)

40 Helicopters , a bit off from what we need 60-80 Helicopters but its a start

However if we can afford 8 Global cutters for $350 Million dollars ^_^ you know which package we could get if we really wanted, and I am not disrespecting the global cutters

Russians are currently desperate to open new lines of trade and after the recent tilt of India to Western armaments they are in need of selling weaponry to new markets. But certain questions need to be asked and the most important is if India leans on Russia will spare parts and maintenance for purchases still be available. One thing is certain after reading the forum regarding our air defense is that Pakistan needs these but one should ask if China is giving comparable goods which side is more reliable and does the army expect long term relations to solidify enough for this radical shift in our market. On the plus side Sino Russian relations are improving and if materialized this gives our army a great new market to get technology the west has not been selling us.

That is very good question (bold part) also does China has and offered more advance / upgraded version of similar or better systems if yes then Pakistan should buy those from China as we just don't need SAMs we need advance SAMs which can handle 21st century threats.

@Penguin does China has upgraded versions of said Russian SAMs which are better then those or they can offer much better SAMs of their own to Pakistan?

Also what weapons systems Russia can offer Pakistan that China can't now?
