No country is going to publish its force deployment. 80% is a speculation created by your Military to justify its spending. India has internal security issues, and then there is China, and Bangladesh; Moreover, since 2000’s and George Fernandez, China has taken precedence over Pakistan

Ok, so why isn't bharat moving troops to China border?

because troops are only moved during any threat of war. till then they stay in barracks during peacetime . now it just so happens that due to our tensions with your country our peace time barracks were situated near the Pakistan border . now just cuz we have a change in threat perception we are not going to move all our troops towards the east and north east are we?
please remember we have just raised 4 mountain divisions . they are china centric not aimed towards you . soon they are forming a strike corps in the north east .

The Journalist said something like 60 40 and based his estimation on his own ‘calculations’. IMO, force deployments are confidential.
Anyway, war is the last thing that is there on any Indian’s mind including the Government. A full scale war would take our economy back by at least 20 years

I don’t think he mentioned anything about 25/33 infantry, 3/3 armoured, 3/3 mechanized divisions. He was arguing with Musharraf on the percentage.

No army in the world is transparent, including India. Revealing the force deployment defeats the original purpose of awing the enemy.

Programs such as J-20 are different and force deployment are different. Even with US military you may not find the acctual force deployments

Anyway, if force deployments are known, it is easy for the enemy to attack. There is no element of surprise. It is like giving your enemy the strength. Why would any sane force in the world would do that

Armor is useless in the mountains and therefore wont be deployed there.
Same with mech
That leaves infantry divs. I assume you know that the defender in mountains has a hug advantage and a 12:1 numerical superiority is preferred by an attacking force when going against prepared defences in mountains. So we dont need as many men defending the China border due to the terrain there.

the major thrusts possible are only through the plains of punjab and the deserts of rajasthan and sindh. considering that, why wont we deploy there?
