Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) has declared the proposed introduction of the Feed in Tariff (FIT) system, which utilizes the smart grid solar technology, to encourage people to invest in solar power equipment for use in their own houses or buildings.
According to Chairperson of Pakistan Engineering Council, Rukhsana Zuberi, the robust technology will allow the utility companies to buy the excess power generated from houses and buildings.
IESCO, an integrated power supply company in Pakistan, has agreed to buy the excess power generated from installed solar power systems after negotiations. The arrangement will not only provide more employment, but also improve the power supply to the industries in the country. The FIT has been acknowledged by the government of Pakistan. National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) of Pakistan and IESCO collaborate with PEC to finalize and announce the modalities of the FIT system.
Zuberi also stated that to promote the new system, PEC will install two solar power modules, each with a capability to generate 180 kW power at the PEC building and Planning Commission, with the financial support of 480 million Yen received from Japan. The six-storied PEC building will start generating solar power by 2012.
