They're being slow and cautious about it. The first session is energy issues and as I understand it is more focused on improving the energy situation in Pakistan than improving Pakistan's image. The next session is scheduled for next month and I don't think the Embassy has said what it's going to be about yet.

It's not the words you speak, but the actions your reap that make all the difference. Ground level activism and community outreach will do far more to help better American perceptions of Pakistan then any meet and great forum.

Actions at home would help too. Pakistan is portrayed in an often negative light in Europe and the US, so domestic reforms or rectification would help sooth perceptions too.

But any step is a positive step and any step needs to be followed with concrete actions, not just lip service.

Public diplomacy is very important. Like it or not, Pakistan should take its cue from India and learn to maximize public diplomacy like community outreach and business relationship. Don't know how much Pakistani-American community is involved, but it should make its presence felt. Create PACs. Hire lobbyist. Every little helps.

improving the image is also a necessity. if we want to take full advantage of our production capacity(once energy crises is averted) we need export orders and everyone knows that exports are positively correlated with country's image and reputation.
i know they haven't said or done any thing yet.but they are thinking about it. even this is a huge step forward from our prospective.(surprising right that is how bad their progress was in this sector :tsk:)

I would say that exports are correlated with the reputation of a country's particular industry. Just because people world-wide love Swiss chocolate does not mean they are eager to buy Swiss toilets...

Interesting.

i agree with your point but my business analysis teacher once told me that no matter how quality conscious one is every one has certain threshold after which he gets price conscious.
good relation with a country helps you land government contracts and free trade agreements.which in turn drives down your cost and helps you to remain competitive in that new market.

I know exactly what kind of ailment afflicts the Pakistani nation. It is taking beauty for granted. But I don't know the causes as yet. Until this illness is cured Pakistan will remain the guy with leprosy among the nations.

Finally it's about time we should promote positive image of Pakistan everywhere and on every forum but remeber actions speaks louder than words so imo we should show the world positive side of our too show them campaigns that are going on in our country like "fix it".

Like keeping Dr. Afridi in prison? It is hard to explain that one in particular.

Releasing Dr Afridi will help build bridges with Trump, who cited his detention as a sore point in Pakistan-US relations. I've always thought a Aafia Siddiqi-Afridi trade would be a benefit to both sides.
