Pakistan deploys 2500 strong force to protect nuclear arsenal : Ishaq Dar

Don't know what is so new in this news. As if we were giving our nukes a sunbath on a beach until yesterday.

@WebMaster can you change the title at its 2500 , not 25,000.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan's atomic assets are absolutely safe and highly trained security force of 2500 personnel, equipped with modern weapons, is entrusted to guard the assets, Minister for Finance Ishaq Dar said Saturday.

Speaking in National Assembly, he said the programme is being guarded by Special Response Force, Special Escort Force, Marine Force, Counter Intelligence Teams and Personnel Reliability Programmes.

In 1999, the programme was divided in different parts but now it has a unified National Command Authority headed by the prime minister and Special Projects Division (SPD) acts as liaison among various programmes, he informed.

Speaking about measures taken for security of Strategic Assets of the country, the finance minister said Pakistan's programme for security of strategic assets is prepared with a great sense of responsibility and its defence measures are up to the prescribed international standards.

He said the programme is protected by Strategic Forces Command and it works under a strict Regulatory Regime relating to nuclear safety including protection of material and facilities, Fissile Material Control and Accounting, steps against illegal trafficking and border controls.

The programme has an Export Control Regime of international standards set up by Nuclear Suppliers Group, Missile Technology Control Regime and Australia Group, the finance minister added.

The real question here is How many of the generals and important persons in PA are loyal??

Numbers do count but making them immune to the external forces which may buy them is the main task.

Very important question raised.
In general, all the soldiers & generals are loyal to any army. The Soldiers & Generals of Pak Army are also loyal , But in Pakistan, It is a fact that , The Wahabis & Salafis have penetrated the Army. Save Pakistan from Wahabis / Salafis. Their ( Wahabis ) ideology is very strict, rough, rude, & extremist.
Pakistanis may shout , but this is the truth.

Ok now the strange part which i noticed is that the 2 guys leading the guard of honor are having the FF regimental red colored things on their thighs and the officer having the sword is also wearing the FF regimental scarf, thus i believe that the SPD protection force is composed of army units either newly raised ones or old ones being converted to this special duty.

Two guys in second, why there is different camo on dresses, does it signify the guy with dark camo belongs to some other unit other than infantry?

Hi,

Even in a nationalistic nation like israel---there are those who gave away their nuc secrets---Vanunu. Then there are those in the u s even though they are u s citizens---they sold their nation---Pollard. ---russia---germany---britain---france---every nation has them---.

Then there are generals who want to launch them without a moments notice---you want to talk about religious fanaticism in army---you need to look into the U S military---. Religious fanatics are in abundance from general level to the soldier level---.

Many a U S military generals giving sermons in church about religion belief and faith and self-righteous belief of christian faith---. Name one active pakistani general who gives sermons in friday prayers---.

I was trying to figure out the need and tasks for this 'marine force' which is part of the 25,000 troops detailed to guard the nuke assets as mentioned in the report.

What you have just mentioned has nothing to do with protection of nuclear assets.

Naval version of Babur (Nuke Tipped) will be stored at navy's facilities, thus a force is needed to protect it.

Islamabad: Pakistan has raised a 25,000-strong special force and put in place extensive measures to protect and manage its strategic assets, including its nuclear arsenal, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar said on Saturday.

"A special security force of 25,000 personnel, who have been specially trained and provided sophisticated weapons, has been deployed to protect (the nuclear assets)," Dar said, while winding up the debate on the 2013-14 budget in the National Assembly or lower house of Parliament.

Pakistan has raised a special response force, a special escort force and a marine force to protect and guard its strategic assets, he said without giving details.

Besides, there are also counter-intelligence teams and a "personnel reliability programme" to oversee the strategic programme, he said.

The 25,000-strong security force has been equipped with the latest equipment and the personnel are fully prepared for "mobility on the ground or in the air", he said. The Strategic Plans Division, which manages the nuclear arsenal, has set up a training academy for the security force, Dar said.

The security force was always prepared and it trained for all conditions and eventualities on the basis of past experiences and potential scenarios involving the strategic assets, he said.

The system for identifying dangers is always at high alert and is constantly being reviewed, Dar said.

Pakistan's strategic assets programme is based on strong foundations and meets international standards for security and management of nuclear assets as laid down by organisations like the Nuclear Suppliers Group and Missile Technology Control Regime, he said.

Over the past year, the military too has provided details of the special security force raised by the Strategic Plans Division.

Several batches of this force have passed out of training academies across the country.

What's their rank structure? Seems different from regular Army.

What a stupid question.....asking such question...........Give me a one example where any Pakistani General was a traitor.???

I think the figure is 2500, not 25000.

They are more than enough to protect our nuke assets.

1- Why there was a need for protecting those facilities at Corps level, instead of tasking SSG or any other specialised units for them?

2- It says "Protecting the strategic assets including Nukes" what did he meant by saying Strategic Assets other than Nukes?

1. SSG isn't trained on securing, locating, tracking and retrieving of strategic assets. The SPD forces are also specialized in defending a possible attack from the aggressors; both local and foreign.

2. The term "Strategic Assets" also covers a range of weapons and their parts such as nuclear weapon cores, HE devices, launch codes, nuclear delivery systems (missiles, dedicated aircrafts).
