wrong decision of govt for ending lockdown before eid is one major reason of such rise

Eid was a major factor

But you cannot blat the government...

I blame pakistani that always refuse to take personal responsibility and always blame others for everything!!!

govt responsibility is greater as they have resources and power,in italy when corona cases rose due to ignorance of their public their govt took tough decisions and enforced lockdown properly so they successfully controlled this virus and at first their numbers seems to be greater than all world but now their condition is much better, similar is case with china

There only so much any government can do. Especially in a nation where everyone flaunts the law and ignores all rules!!

Pakistani people do not take personal responsibility, it is a common sickness amongst all. They love to blame others.

Breaking: 'No disease-free area': Report Summary to Punjab CM estimates 670,800 cases in Lahore city alone

An alarming summary presented by the Punjab Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department to Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar almost two weeks ago had revealed that "no workplace and residential area of any town is disease-free" in the provincial capital, and that total virus cases in the city are estimated at around 0.7 million, it emerged on Monday.

Advising the chief minister to immediately enforce a complete lockdown for "at least four weeks", the summary, a copy of which is available with Dawn.com, said a smart lockdown would not work since all areas of the city had been impacted by the disease, adding that asymptomatic cases became the "main source of infection and local transmission" in the metropolis.

"Any subsequent decision of lifting, relaxing or doing away with lockdown measures should be taken after reviewing the results of smart sampling conducted with regular intervals till the final tapering down of the virus," it had recommended.

The summary — signed by Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department Secretary Muhammad Usman and dated May 15 — listed the results of a "smart sampling project" to "detect and determine the spread of Covid-19 and to structure and guide [the department's] response towards its containment".

Under the exercise, randomised targeted sampling (RTS) and smart sampling (SS) were carried out; the former was to determine the prevalence of the disease in occupational sectors that remained functional during the lockdown, while the latter was to understand community spread.

After these exercises, the report said, it could be estimated that Lahore, which has a population of over 11 million, has around 670,800 coronavirus cases. But as of June 1, the entire Punjab province has officially reported just 26,240 infections and 497 fatalities.

Analysing the data from various hotspots including workplaces and residential areas, the summary noted "a worrisome picture of Covid-19 prevalence" in communities, with 5.18pc infection rate for RTS and 6.01pc for SS.

"This means that no workplace and residential area of any town is disease-free and, as such, Lahore exhibits an alarmingly similar transmission pattern."

Elaborating on the findings for the testing carried out in the provincial capital, the summary stated that six per cent of all those who were tested turned out positive for Covid-19, while some towns showed a positivity rate as high as 14.7pc.

"These cases being asymptomatic could not be reported to health facilities, but became the main source of infection and local transmission," the report said.

"The town wise breakdown shows a value of more than three per cent for all towns — except Wagha Town — and ranges between 2.11pc and 9.33pc."

The summary added that people over 50 years of age are the ones most affected by the respiratory illness, as is reflected in international literature and research.

It concluded that any decisions regarding lifting or enforcing lockdown measures can't and shouldn't be taken in isolation. "It should be necessarily articulated through larger consensus and based on evidence gathered through smart sampling and testing."

The sampling exercise was carried out with the technical assistance of a working group, consisting of a panel of experts, that was constituted on the directives of the provincial cabinet to provide an "international perspective and input to determine Covid-19 prevalence", according to the report.

According to a Gilani Survey, since March, 3 in 5 Pakistanis continue to believe that the threat of coronavirus is exaggerated.

A nationally representative sample of adult men and women from across the four provinces was asked the following question, “To what extent do you agree/disagree that the threat of Coronavirus is being exaggerated?” In response to this question, 62% agreed that the threat is exaggerated while 38% disagree.

Nearly 3 in 4 respondents from Sindh and Balochistan believe that the threat is exaggerated

Out of the total respondents, 58% from Punjab, 74% from Sindh, 57% from KP and 79% from Balochistan believe that the threat from coronavirus is exaggerated.

When this is the mindset of ignorant people of Pakistan, than why coronavirus wouldn't thrive in Pakistan?

And yet we have geniuses here who blame Govt for the evolvement of the virus. They did whatever they could within their limited resources, but now the onus is on the public to be cautious, do their due diligence and follow all the protocols they are told. However, they are doing absolute zilch to protect themselves and their love ones. Heck they dont even take the thread serious (as shown by the survey) ...

People are not to be blamed. When you downplay the severity of the pandemic by saying it's a flu, this was inevitable. If the government had lauched a proper awareness campaign thing might have been different. From day 1 the fedral government was against the lockdown. The half heated lockdown was off no use, but it did help curtail the exponential growth.

People here try to justify the number of cases by comparing it with other countries. Instead of doing what's good for the community and overall pakistan we are busy in dick measuring contest. There's single cohesive approach at how to deal with the situation. Niazi saab even opened the tourism sector, making sure the vulnerable communities in the north go into extinction.

Yes, initially it was handled well, I will give you that. Also, I am totally against the tourism sector to be re-open, however, there has been a major shift in the policy and awareness campaign through all communication channels since many weeks now.

More to the point, during the lockdown Govt tried to take care of people (distrusted food/money) within their limited resources.

That said, despite of all the noise, local and international, ignorant "Awam" are adamant and not ready to accept the thread, than its nobody's fault. Because more than adequate knowledge and awareness has been given to the public. However, as shown in the survey, people believe its exaggerated - with this mindset, nobody can help them.

If you follow this model and extrapolate the numbers in relation to population, every major city in the world will have hundreds of thousands to millions of cases. Its a normal finding if you take any city.
Well it does tell one thing that current around 20% +ve ratio in tests conducted is not the norm and hovers around 5% in the general populace in Lahore, the most hard hit city in Punjab.
It tells one more thing that with amount of prevalence in a city the death count is very low, which is a good indication of actual lethality of virus.
Try conducting this randomised trial in Karachi, you will get even higher % and a huge number.
The numbers that are shown in media are not an indication of actual number of infections all over the world. As not a single major country has tested more than 10% of population.
As shown by some of studies carried out in Germanny by Bonn university which showed a mortality rate of 0.37 % in one of hardest hit county.

the opinion of people are swayed by the stance taken by the government, the pakistani govt thinks that corona is not a pandemic and so does the chief justice, the seriousness of the attitude is reflected in imran not wearing mask himself.
