Hmm good one, we are technically not hostile or is there any animosity technically between us and SL, BD, Myanmar and Nepal. It is naive to expect countries sharing border to be peaceniks , every country has little problems with its neighbours, heck US has immigration problem with Mexico, Canadians hate US for their trade policy etc. Only in lalaland and in europe you can find the ideal neighbours.

Agreed Pakistan has lots of friendly neighbours who would give an arm and leg for it. Iran with key interest in Balochistan, Afghanistan which is happy to export suicide bombers to your country and India .. well no comments.

Well he is the defence minister and he has to give certain inputs especially during question hour of the parliment, otherwise how can he justify the stationing of troops in IK when especially parties in IK have requested for troop withdrawl.

Agreed Agno , but I dont know how to put it succinctly. Agno frankly you need to seperately view Parlimentary workings, media operations , common man as all these three dont work integrated in India as might in other countries and there is a severe disconnect between these three. Frankly nowadays external relations of India dont find much news value as internal politics, even I came across this news in a Pakistani board and I am sure a huge margin of Indian population would have never come across this piece of news. To give you an example of what I am talking, a few years ago any major conflict or operation in SL would be headlines in Tamil media but nowadays they are very far and few in between , they ususally dont get mentioned here in TN or else find their place at the end of domestic news.

In conclusion when we are talking about people to people exchange I am sure this statement or any other statement would influence the public opinion much as people here are nowadays interested in domestic news consuption than external relations. I tell you what India pakistan cricket match can and will do more to public diplomacy then what can be achieved by politicians, heck Musharaffs visit to Agra had a huge positive influence as he charmed the Indian audience and many here went gaga over his visit.
I cannot explain this much more as I am finding it difficult to explain the scenario here

I cant help ypu if you pretend to be blind, are we at war with SL, whenever a conflict erupts within the island where do srilanakan ministers run and whom do they meet.

Are we technically at war with Bangladesh, we have problems yes, but nothing of the sort that shall lead to war and nothing of the sort that cannot be negotiated in a table.

Are we at war with nepal, heck there is no major conflict worthy of talking about.

Myanmar, we are being friendly to them and they seem to be reciprocating

Pakistan, more conducive atmosphere , lull in voilence and cross border insurgency.

China, rival yes, but again no major conflict that cannot be resolved through talking.

Now compare Pakistan, on one hand you have Afganistan and in the receiving end of their millitancy and on another side you have iran hapily helping the Balochi cause and India with whom the relations are starting to look north.
