Pakistan has offered to "enhance" its defence co-operation with Sri Lanka, raising expectations that the two South Asian countries will continue to discuss a deal for Sri Lanka to purchase a batch of Sino-Pakistani-produced JF-17 Thunder fighters.
A Pakistani government statement issued following a meeting between Rana Tanveer Hussain, Pakistan's minister of defence production, and Major General Jayanath Lokuketagodage (retd), Sri Lanka's ambassador to Islamabad, on 15 March said, "Pakistan has always proposed futuristic defence co-operation to Sri Lanka. As one of the largest suppliers of high-tech defence equipment, Pakistan played an important role in assisting Sri Lanka to defeat terrorism."
