ISLAMABAD - Pakistan and China have reaffirmed their resolve to continue to cooperate at various international and regional fora to advance interests of peace and security.
This was stated by Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi and Foreign Secretary Jalil Abbas Jilani during a meeting in Beijing.
Both had wide ranging discussion on a variety of important issues that included efforts to bring stability in Afghanistan‚ making South and the East Asia a peaceful and economically growing region free of disputes‚ deepening Sino-Pakistan ties‚ and the reforms at the United Nations Security Council.
Chinese Foreign Minister maintained that Pakistan and China are all weather strategic partners and in view of evolving international environment they need to reinforce their ties.
Foreign Secretary Jalil Abbas Jilani informed the Chinese Minister about Pakistan's efforts to bring about peace and stability in the region.
He reiterated Pakistan's commitment to facilitate political reconciliation in Afghanistan.

Time to cut the crap and build the relationship with China on the solid ground instead of empty rhetoric. A good relationship is the one deep rooted in business and trade, not in just selling weapons. Chines are known to be opportunist people, they won't budge until they see any gain in their own pole. I just don't get the this fake brotherly crap that is being spewed by Pakistanis. Chinzzz will leave you at the mercy of your enemy any given day. regardless of your unwarranted existence. Why gloat them for nothing they ever expressed love you expect them to save your behind with their glucostatic appetite.???

Problem is not many think like you and re-assess the friendship with China. I admit US has destroyed Pakistan a lot but it has also helped Pakistan in the past, more than China too.

Its our fault, we always want to be helped. We need to change this,attitude and try to stand on our two feet. Only long term strong relationship with China that is a future,superpower will be a relationship deeply rooted in trade and "mutual benefits" ,not in a state that acts as a strategic reserve whipping lash against India.

The problem with Pakistan is exactly this. Boxing above its weight category. It may be hip to call yourself China's strategic partner. But except for the minor aid outlay and the major development contracts that China bagged in Pakistan, how is Pakistan important to China? Unless, of course, if there is a war. How long will Pakistan live this life? ... waiting for a war, as China's hedge.
Again the same position is forcing Pakistan time and again to start a war because the so called partnerships of Pakistan will be useful only during hostilities. So every decade or two, there is some meddling in Kashmir; Pak can act as drama queen showing off its 'importance' to the world. Even the Koreas think in terms of war and the freaking 'geo-politics' only so much. South Korea is after all the US's handle in SE Asia.

Even if the golden moment arrives for Pakistan's geo-political strategic master plan, and Pakistan gets caught up in the US-China fight, China has not much population in its West to invest in its defence. Pakistan will be forced to fight for China with its manpower, for God-knows-what.

All this politics may make sense, but only if there is some substance to back it up, something to protect and cherish.

How deep is the relationship? Let's take a peek at the reality.

Trade - just $10 billion after decades, in contrast to Sino-Indian trade which is $65 billion slated to increase to $100 billion by 2015 and $500 billion by 2020!!

Monetary bailouts - China has been consistently refusing to bail out Pakistan to service its debts and had to run to American controlled institutions like the IMF for a $7 billion bailout under strict conditions!

Flood relief - The promised $200 million for flood relief has yet to materialize since 2007!

Lip Service - during Indo Pak conflicts in 1965, 1971 and Kargil.

Investments - Again, the promised $20 billion 'investments' is just in the air. Nothing substantial put in black and white. No road map as yet, except in Pak Administered Kashmir where the Chinese are involved in infrastructure activities for its own benefit! Where the Chinese are concerned, there are no freebies!

Kashmir - Neutral stance, saying the dispute must be solved mutually between India and Pakistan.

Deeper than the oceans? Higher than the mountains? Sweeter than honey? Stronger than steel? What do you think? Frankly, I think this means squat!

Here's one paragraph from that article:

What the people know on the ground is the fabricated reality of China as an evergreen friend of Pakistan who will not allow the US to bully Pakistan. Pakistan has been bullied for the past six years, and there is nothing that China has done or would want to do, partly because it has too much at stake with the US. For China, Pakistan matters very little in the broad geo-political game.
