There are many reasons for why Pakistan is being called a failed state.They are:

-Pakistan's current Government is simply a puppet.There is no democracy at all.
-Pakistan's judicial system is very fragile.No one has faith in it.
-Pakistan's Intelligence Agency,the ISI cannot be trusted..your own president Mr.Zardari doesn't believe in it.
-Pakistan is debt-ridden.It was on the verge of bankruptcy.
-There are millions of terror camps all over Pakistan which are beyond your government's control.Terrorists have almost taken over entire pakistan.
-Pakistan is one of the most backward and poorest nations in the world.
-There is hardly any foreign direct investment in pakistan
-There is no harmony between your 4 provinces-sind,punjab,Balochistan and NWFP.Pakistan is on the verge of collapse.
-Pakistan is one of the most corrupt nations in the world.
-Pakistan is not a safe country anymore
-Pakistan's educational system is very weak.
-Literacy rate in pakistan is poor.
-Civic facilities in pakistan are pathetic.People don't even get clean water to drink.
-Pakistan is facing a humanitarian and economic crisis.
-Pakistan has always been an unstable nation because of it's weird state policies.

These are hard realities for any pakistani to accept.But this is a fact.That's why Pakistan is called a failed state.

I suppose India's education systems is strong, the literacy rates are excellent, and the civic facilities outstanding?

Pakistan has problems of a magnitude I do not underestimate - huge. But calling it a failed state is the wrong approach, wrong definition, wrong analysis.

This is the crux of the India Pakistan issue. Insult each other, feel pride at your opponent's woes, don't look inwards.

Except the first five points and the last point, all the others apply to each and every country in South Asia; so what's the problem? We have to work out a solution, all of us, not just Pakistan.
