ISLAMABAD — Pakistan is constructing its first commercial-scale nuclear reprocessing plant that would make it possible to produce weapons-grade plutonium for its nuclear weapons program, according to informed sources.

Pakistani scientists and vendors of plant components are working on the reprocessing plant to be installed in a building originally constructed to house a French-manufactured plant in a deal that was canceled in the 1970s. The site is located in Kundian in southern Punjab, about 200 kilometers southwest of Islamabad, the sources said.

Mir, you're probably referring to Chasnupp I and II, abandoned by France in 1978 and completed with Chinese help.

I think this is a new project, unless Kundian is the same place as Chashma in Southern Punjab.
Btw, it will be our second reactor producing weapongrade Pu. :yahoo:

. . .
Kundian was secret, it just expose. Nobody ever heard this plant since 1979. Was totally abondoned structure.

Thats what I mean, 50MW Heavywater Khushab was also kept secret till US Spy satellites picked it up.

Kundian is a new project. :pakistan:

Kundian Fuel Fabrication Plant
Kundian Nuclear Complex I

Kundian is a reactor uranium fuel fabrication facility situated where SGN was to build a 50-100 tU/a spent fuel reprocessing plant (project started in 1974, halted in 1977), located near the Chashma reactor. With an annual production capacity of 24 tons, the facility has been manufacturing fuel for the KANUPP reactor since 1978. The Nuclear Fuel Plant is now known as KNC I - Kundian Nuclear Complex I. This site is not incorporated into IAEA safeguards, but like all related sites, its security is professed by the Pakistani government.

Is it a really a new reactor or an old story revisited?
If it is new then it should be second PU producing reactor.
Are the locations of Chasnupp and Kundian geographically different?
