Pakistan Bans 5 Baloch Militant Groups

The issue of Balochistan has to be addressed by solving the problems faced by the Baloch. By using might, we will end up creating more dissidence in the province and force a few more people to join the secessionist movement.

It was regrettable moment when Akbar Bugti was killed in Balochistan. As neighbors of Bugti's and having known them, it was something that many I know found rather unfortunate. Firstly the government should start to solve the problems in the province and then the groups being asked to come to the discussion table will come themselves.

Some sane words.
But...it was not just 'unfortunate' to see Bugti dead; it was a great tragedy and mistake. On top of that Musharraf came out publicly next and called Bugti's death as 'good' for Pakistan.
Before Bugti's death, the Baluch nationalists were not united. After that...well, you can see what's happening. Baluchistan gets shut down on the death anniversary.
Another genius General of Pakistani army gave another 'martyr' to a minority province. As if Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto was not enough.

Coming back to the topic, I think the Baluch nationalists are unfair and hasty. President Zardari claims himself of partly Baluch-ethnicity and has gone out of his way to bring the Baluch nationalists back in the fold. The 'Aghaz e Huqooq e Baluchistan' package was offered by consensus of the various political parties. PM Gilani stressed that the package is just an 'Aghaz' ('beginning') and that much more will come. Punjab has reportedly offered a part of its share (no more population based) to give to Baluchistan.

But target killings of Punjabis have crossed some red lines. Also, the Baluchi demands that non-domicile holders cannot be allowed to move to areas like Gwadar and take part in elections there is unacceptable for any country.

Finally, truth be told it is not only the 'Sardars' of Baluchistan who are keeping the province most backward. If you look into the map and the demographics you will see that there are hardly any cities with strong education institutions, civil society, intellegentsia etc in Baluchistan compared with the Sindh and Punjab. Agriculture-centric thriving towns like in Punjab and Sindh are scare. Even Quetta pales before backward district areas of Karachi. MOST of Baluchistan is as deprived as the poorer towns and villages of Punjab and Sindh, as result of these factors and some injustice.

It is going to take time to bring Baluchistan back to the fold. Much is offered by the present parliament. If they are going to be unreasonable then let some Stalin like solution be done: Encourage mass migrations from Punjab and other provinces and let the demographics settle it! Yes, I hate to say this. I really do..

Have you ever talked to someone working at sui gas installations in Baluchistan During Bugtee's life time?

If you ever get a chance, you will know how dominent they were, and how they kept robbing national assets in broad day light....Their kins would simply come to sui gas sites and drive away with whatever they wanted, and none could stop them without being killed..That was the amount of forced control they had on the provice's resources..No wonder that the government eventually resorted to getting rid of them by force..because there was no other way.

How many Baluchis have tried to fix the problems you mention here in a non violent way? They say "Charity begins at home".
Being a Pakistani or ex pakistani living Abroad i have been to many european countries, and have met Baluchis in Scandinevia..None of them bother to go back and build something useful in their own area..On the other hand,Punjabis,Pathaans frm KPH,Kashmiris living abroad invest heavily in their places of origin...
How many baluchis have done so? I would like to know...

Whai seen in countries like Danmark,Norway and Finland,is that Baluchis came there in 70s...rarely go back and shagg the hell out of the local girls..save no money....But thats my limited observation from the few Baluchis i met, living abroad...Does not represent all.

Safriz,
As I said above, most of Baluchistan has been backward compared with rest of Pakistan and will remain so because of geographical and culture (perhaps 'GeoCultural', to coin a term?) reasons. A few roses may bloom in desert but they are very few compared with what happens in favorable environment. Baluchistan may be rich in mineral resources but, for the most part, Baluchistan's mineral resources are what they are: A 'potential'. That has not benefited Pakistan enough. Has not benefited Baluchistan enough.
The most lacking resource in Baluchistan is the human resource. Israelis from Europe with brain-power have done marvel in relatively harsh environment. Urdu speaking educated migrants from British-India of 1947 played a very significant party in the early history of Pakistan (and continue to do so)....

Baluchistan is different on a human development scale but not hopeless at all.

Just like Kohistan in K-P, or Tharparker in Sindh, or Chowlistan in Punjab are relatively backward areas so is most of Baluchistan.
You need to look at those womanizing Baluch's in Europe in this context. All of us humans are a product of our environment. All too often of our physical environment.

PS. I know, I may seem rambling. I think these are connected dots in my own head though.

Ok i have lived much part of my life in a corner of KP..I know about Kohistan...They are backward because they coose to remain so..Nobody stops them from being enterprising business men,or their young people from coming to Universities and colleges...
The problem is the people in the so called beckward areas being docile...They dont want to move out for education and employment, and want everything to be delivered at their door steps..

Baluchistan has a very low population and unless a new system is introduced in Pakistan, all resources will continue to be distributed on the basis of population...

Punjabis and Pathaans from KPH are all over the country and abroad..How many Baluchis ever bother to leave their little village and move out towards other more developed part of the country in search of better employment and education?

The numbers are much lesser compared to other ethnicities....

Sindhis too are docile..But they got Karachi...And dont really need to go to upper country..Honestly..I have never ever met a sindhi or Baluchi in my decades living in the corner of KP i was born in...

Baluchis can have Gawadar as a developed city similar to Karachi..But are they fascilitating any effort in that direction? I dont think so..

I am only expressing things from my experience.. correct me if i am wrong.

I always wondered if Pakistan was only for Urdu speakers, Punjabis and Pathans..when there is a will there is a way. I have never met a Baluchi or Sindi abroad for the sake of oppurtunities..but many who come to beg in Umrah / Hajj season.

I hope now Rehman Malik doesn't go back on his resolve... Enough of sweet talk and negotiations ... anybody who points a gun at an FC/Army/Police person should be shot on sight ... I highly recommend using drones in Balochistan ... drone are very useful and very effective serviellance devices in that terrain .... ISI should drive a wedge between those militant groups because they have a tendency to fight among themselves. Looks like JFT 's can practice their ground support skills by bombing the militant hideouts .... bomb the hell out of them ... Once we 'shoch and awe' these groups and make an example out of them their struggle won't last long because they lack motivation for a sustained conflict.

Exactly Tayyab. If Balochistan is poor it doesn't means it gives the right to some scums to kill the poor and innocents of other provinces. We should go with the strategy of carrot and stick. Those Baloch Pakistanis who aren't involve in any terrorist activities or anti national movement should be welcomed with open hands. But those involve in killing people, bombing gas pipelines and other such activities should be given their one way visa to hell. No more negotiations. Srilanka already wasted years for negotiations with LTTE terrorists and than later resolve to military use for the solution. We should also use military but with greatly shaped strategy. As you said drones would be a great weapon against them. Other than drones we must increase the local intelligence in Balochistan so we can locate the miscreants hiding in the common people.

1 Provide rights to the people of Balochistan and make them strong financially. Try to eradicate the unemployment in the province. Try to integrate the local population with other parts and people of Pakistan. Also improve the state of governance in Balochistan. If we have done some mistakes try to compensate them. This should be the political aspect of our action in Balochistan.

2 Beat the hell out of the dumb souls of BRA, BRP, BLA, BNF, BLUF etc etc. The operation should be based on local intelligence with first search and than precision strike. Also take out their support in Afghanistan which is also a very important part of our campaign in Balochistan.

Enough is enough. Let's give Burraq UCAV a debut in Balochistan;)

The local Baluchi populance is only afriad of retaliation by these sardars and landlords because Pakistani constitution has no effective counter measures against fedual system. If such measures were present these people would rise against those who exploit them and GoP would support them. But GoP has always done the politics of sardari..good sardars vs bad sardars. Good talibans vs bad talibans..when are we going to realise that someone bad is bad 100% and there is no element to good in it no matter even if searched with a micro scope.
