The issue, i think the author is trying to raise is that Russia is moving somewhat closer to Pak than the days of former USSR when it maintained good distance with Pak & keep India happy, the case in being the sale of RD-93 engines for JF-17 or Russian insistance on including Pak as well in SCO, though no doubt Indo-Russian relations are good but what if India moves more & more closer to US at the cost of Russia, this will certainly make Russia think if it really want to keep Pak at bay?

One last point (which may well knock all that I've written above). The Russians will be paranaoid about security for Putin and given the situation in Islamabad (where even President Zardari is rarely known to be seen in public), one wonders if this visit could happen at all. Maybe Putin and Zardari could schedule a summit on neutral (more secure) ground?

Wow! The writer makes it look like as if Putin going to Pakistan is like entering a terrorist den with militants waiting in ambush with their AKs and RLs to bump him off as soon as he steps onto Pakistani soil!

Pakistan is not Somalia. Though a terror threat does exist in the background, it's not so serious that Putin would cancel his visit! Jeeez!

How ironic that the Indians themselves don't see what they are proving here: the only 'interest' Russia has in India is the $$$.

Since the end of the Cold War, there is no strategic or ideological alignment of Indian and Russian interests. In fact, India is slowly but surely shifting into the US orbit.

mate why u weigh everything in $$$?? apart from money (which is important for Russia), Russia is supplying those tech. which no other countries will provide at double the cost, will any country give nuclear submarines to any other country, the lease of INS chakra is the only eg. in the whole world also Russia is helping build our own nuke sub, Russia was one of the only three countries which did not sanction India post-pokhran (France & Israel the others), Russia was the country which provided us the nuclear reactors & tech. even when the Indo-US nuke deal was not signed. So it's not always about money

The best thing would be to wait and watch to find what the Russians have to offer the Pakistanis. There is no doubt that it will hurt us if the Russians go overboard to offer something that will hurt India. Only time can tell.

nope...we are preety much sure that MI-26 is gonna win..CH-47 doesn't stand any chance against it.and Ah-64d is a great choice.Russia knew that even before entering the competition.

may Pak-Russia relation flourish.but i've strong doubt that this relation will ever stand a chance to take place Indo-Russia relation.and Pakistan operated Russian weapons systems for quite some time.no need to be alarming.

Difficult to ask your biggest customer that. India will still buy10's of billions of dollars worth of equipment from Russia & the Russians aren't stupid enough to throw all that away to get a few measly dollars from Pakistan, especially since Pakistan's best friend is China.

Really? I hope you are right. We'd love to see Mi-28 in Pakistani colours.

Apart from Russia-India future defence issues, i think Pakistan would like to use terrorism 'bahana' to get what it wants. It is also in Russia's interest to use us to create stable region, including Afghanistan.

actualy this (as per writter's Fantasy abt Pakistan) happens in india more often (remember recently a parliment member shot dead in dehli)
