What's new

Pakistan army had begun test on MBT 3000

I thought Pakistan was going for a 1500hp engine from Ukraine??

Since you are in an ostensibly technical thread, what, O mechanical warrior, is screwing out?

It might be the joke of the millennium, for all the difference it is likely to make. The difference is paint.

Its called keeping your nose where it belongs. Out of a thread that isn't about you or your junk.

Its not coming,

AK series will continue alongside the candidate that will become al haider mbt to replace the obsolete mbt fleet.

As it stands, the search for Al Haider candidate continues whereas AK-2 is being worked upon.

bro, will our AK-2 be more advance than this Al-Haider Project ?

was AlKhalid a failure? Where it disappeared after only 300-600 units induction?

Not exactly. The unit cost was simply too high for the Army to be able to afford replacing all the tanks that needed replacement. It is still a sophisticated piece of equipment and is more advanced that the Tanks it was supposed to replace.

Your Post Says More About Al Khalid Being Not good enough , Yes Its doesnt have that kind of Bells and Whistles Which Mostly European Tanks Have , But Its Good enough Against Current Indian Inventory

To me Slow pace Seems More like due To following reasons
1 With Pakistan Depending So Much on Loans they simply Cant just Keep Saying we dont have money but Even Same Time Keep Showing that they are Buying or building hi tech Weapon Systems .
2 Current War on Terror , moving Budget on other areas
3 Indian Development , As Indian Forces are Building up its Attack Helicopter Fleet and other New Weapon systems From West
4 If you See Pakistan army itself is Trying to Improve its Anti Air Arm
5 Developing Al khalid 2 or 3 Model so thats the reason i think progress is bit slow

Hey i could be wrong

I read it in a defense related article which quotes some General from Pakistan army stating that we have T80UD is the most advance tank in P.A's inventory Ignoring the question about Al-Khalid.

Not true, the t-80ud lacks several featurez that al khalid enjoys since day one. itz a good package offering capable armour, firepower and mobility but lacks at least by a scale of one and more against Al khalid series. in fact, the r accommodating some of al khalid featurez as an upgrade.

I know some old officer of armoured core , commanded a regiment as it came from Ukraine , AK basic variant took some 'inspiration' from this baby

Hello all
As per my source (retired now) , Pakistan looking for one more tank 50T category (for replacing all old and other Tanks like T80 etc) its like AK1, AK2 (1000+) and new tank (Oplm or any 1000+) . Two Different tanks of almost same generation .
According to him PA also looking for a 55T tank (300+) ,
So we will have lots of thing coming (in planning , under construction , on table ) only hurdle is economy and availability.
Lets see what come out in the end.

Different armies have different doctrine and if few Mirages for Argentina or Migs for Vietnam can do tricks then why not T-59 or Zarrar for Pak.

When we call Al Zarrar or T59 obsolete we forget that in mountainous areas they are still effective especially towards our borders with Afghanistan and Iran. Similarly they can be used perhaps on limited scale in Rann of Kutch area.
We can still upgrade them with latest gadgets especially for moutaneous warfare.

Al Haider or AK-2 may prove to be useful in desert or in grounds.

For T80-UD may be it was latest when inducted as compared to basic AK variant.

Being a close observer of PA I can say that one aspect neglected so far is stealth/camouflage which is especially important in case of MBTs.

Serous steps have been taken by foreign producers to apply camouflage features on MBTs/APCs reducing there detection from long ranges.

I hope in next variants same feature shall be addressed.
