Lahoreakistan’s Army chief, Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa is likely to get extension in his term, reports said.

According to a report in Pakistan Today, its Editor Arif Nizami, commenting on the US visit of Prime Minister Imran Khan, said that while all the foreign visits are considered successful irrespective of the desired results, Imran Khan’s trip to Washington was successful from all angles and Bajwa’s presence in it was crucial.

Expecting term extension for the army chief, he said: “Currently, the relation between the government and the Army are good, which was not the case during PML-N (Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz) regime. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, during his tenures, changed the Army Chief six times. Apart from this, General Bajwa is also crucial for the US as it is seeking his help to exit Afghanistan without further loss.”

“Looking at this prospect, we can expect term extension for General Bajwa, though we can’t really guess for how long.”

Nizami also said that Bajwa, who took over as the army chief in November 2016, is different from previous ones as he doesn’t likes publicity, while being known as an “intelligent general with leadership quality”.

I think it is better not to extend him as Raheel Shareef also not took extension although we were facing much critical security threats at that time.ik can appoint gen faiz Hameed as coas who has same stance against pmln and ppp like gen bajwa.Extension are bad for promoting merit and transparency in army

if things have really changed, Bajwa sb will not accept the extension, as Gen Raheel Sharif did. But again, for Gen RS a job offer was waiting. this will be the real test.

The Pakistan People’s Party has advised General Qamar Javed Bajwa to not extend his tenure as the country’s army chief.

“We believe that he won't take an extension,” PPP leader Qamar Zaman Kaira said on Friday. “When we gave an extension [to former army chief Ashfaq Pervez Kiyani], it was given out of compulsion.

“We said at that point of time that it's not a good decision,” he added.

Criticising the government over the arrest of workers of the opposition parties, the PPP leader said that the government tactics will not scare his party members.

“The right to freedom of speech can't be snatched even if someone is convicted,” Kaira said, referring to the opposition parties’ complaint that they are not being given media coverage.

there should be no extension at all. It is not good for the Moral of senior Gen in line and will politicize the working relations.

No no not that long US asking two yrs timeline for withdrawal but talibs giving them 6 months will find middle ground plus they looking to keep 3 bases Bagram khandahar and other I don't recall what ever will happen will happen in next two yr

Why they gave extension to Gen kiyani?? Metha Metha Hup Hup kerwa Thu it won't work like that Kaira is psycho now lost his mind completely they believe new Cheif will take time to settle in that two to 3 month they will play shots to topple the Govt.
