Pakistan allows mobile phone services with India

Will this mean removal of ISD rates or some other details ..

Islamabad: Authorities in Islamabad have agreed to allow mobile phone services between Pakistan and India though certain issues remain to be settled, a Pakistani parliamentary
panel has been informed by officials.

The standing committee on commerce of the National Assembly, the lower house of Pakistan’s parliament, was told by officials of the country’s ministry of information technology about the move to allow mobile phone services between the neighbours.

Commerce secretary Munir Qureshi said the “main hitch is technical linkages between the telecom companies of India and Pakistan as they have to get approvals from their boards”. PTI

Unlikely.

Does not make technical or commercial sense. No telecom company in India erects towers anymore ( with the possible exception of Reliance). There exist Companies who own the passive infra and charge rent from customers who share a cell site.

At best the frequency would be shared.

I do not know if this venture will be commercially feasible. A large % of ISD has been taken away by Skype / Face time type services.

well i dont know then what the news means. Though we can call from Pakistan to India, dont know if there are some restrictions on calling from India to Pakistan in certain cities of India?

UAE has been very strict on this issue. Skype and other applications like it are banned in UAE/ general GCC.

But Voip calls are active there in UAE.. There are lots of people who I know who were in this business even though they are illegal.. I think UAE is not that strict regarding this..

No restrictions at all.

I use it all the time.
