Pakistan ahead of India in literacy rate: UN

Comments on what....some illiterate reporter not able to read facts???

Indian literacy rate is much higher than Pakistan...maybe the reporter was on some Afghan opium when he wrote the report:lol:

Here are some facts not from Pak media but UNICEF itself--

Pakistan--Total adult literacy rate (%), 2000–2007*-- 55%
UNICEF - Pakistan - Statistics

India--Total adult literacy rate (%), 2000–2007*-- 66%
UNICEF - India - Statistics

You my friend fall into the illiterate proportion of the population, if you’d had completed primary education you would understand the difference between; mean average over a time period, from 2000 to 2007 and current levels at 2009 (which have increased). Go back to school before throwing insults at the educated. And misleading people :sniper::lol:

Stop bragging about it. We are behind Sri Lanka that is hardly 10th part of Pakistan in terms of resources. We need to improve on Education and Health and there is no point in comparing it with India and feeling happy, otherwise AIDS, Death because of hunger, number of prostitutes, drug addicts and God know in what else we are better than India. Realize we have to look towards Nations that are doing better than us, although they have fewer resources than the ones we enjoy.

And you my friend are devoid of logic.

If the mean average of 8 years is such, how can it suddenly invert within a span of two years...the OP cited UN as the source...I gave you the UN link...you can read for yourself can't you...the OP mentioned no source just some rubbish articles from the Pak media.

If you are so educated why not get some authentic UN source instead of hollering around.

Shitty across the board! Both sides need a kick in the arse to get them moving on this front.

this is the link of unesco which unicief has NOT updated

And you my friend are devoid of logic.

Email unesco and exclaim to them of "devoid of logic" maybe they might change their figures, depending on your (liking) logic ;)

UNESCO Institute for Statistics

I thought you indians were smart, you don't understand the simple concept of mean averages over a time frame. let me elborate for your sake:

lets say the average illiteracy rate for 2000 was 70 percent and 2001w as 60 and so on........

Once you calculate the mean average over 8 years = you would get a different figure. 8 years years we're talking about(almost a decade ) of course the figure will be lower due to variation between the years. but it would not be a true representation of the current statistics, only the past, of Approximately a decade

UNESCO Institute for Statistics

Unicef hasn't updated the current statistics

Nepal 56.5 (**)
Bangladesh 53.5 (**)
Afghanistan ...
Bhutan ...
Iran, Islamic Republic of ...

Here is your link ....now what part of this cant you understand....It shows Indias Literacy rate at 66%....maybe too many numbers together confuse you...try reading a word at a time...that may be of help

What is the point in arguing about few numbers. Both Pakistan and India are no way near the standard that must have been set years ago. If we still can't attain cent percent literacy or create an education system which can help in breeding a new generation, we both should be ashamed.

I still don't understand how these numbers reflect the actual literacy especially in India. What is the benchmark by which a person can be called literate. Is this if a person can write his name in his regional language or how many classes/year he completed in his school. Some Indian member please enlighten me.

Gasht, tone down a little bit and use the appropriate fonts. Everyone can read here.

Seems like we discuss same stuff every 6 months. I would rather work hard in improving literacy than indulge in comparisons.

"Pakistani Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani said that the government is committed to achieving the goal of 85 percent literacy rate by 2015, the local NNI news agency reported."

In other words, Pakistan is aiming for 85% literacy by 2015.

____

Life expectancy at birth(years):
Pakistan - 117. Pakistan (66.2)
India - India (63.4)

Pak beat India in life expectancy :O

______

Adult literacy rate 2004
(% ages 15 and older)
Pakistan - 133. Pakistan (58.6%)
India - 120. India (66.0)

We're catching up!

Half of the so called literate in the 55% and 60% quoted wont be able to read and write anything beyond their name. Its despicable that even after 60 yrs of independence the state remains so despicable.

Our rulers have failed us miserably and it is the general apathy to the state of our countrymen that have let them get away with that. In case of Pakistan the Indian bogie and in case of India, the divide and rule policies have made the masses eat out of the palm of the rulers at the cost of their own self growth. To think that this area was one of the worlds great civilizations and where learning and creativity was its niche, it has fallen to pitiful times indeed. When all the masses expect is mediocrity whats the benefit for the leaders to do anything then rabble rousing and propaganda?

We need to learn to expect more from our leaders and ourselves after all the leaders are only a reflection of our own selves in some way.
