US National Security Advisor told Pakistan’s NSA in Geneva last Sunday that the United States requests the “kinetic use of drones” from inside Pakistani territory until September 2021. Pakistan’s NSA rejected the request. The U.S. also offered drone surveillance capabilities of the Pak-Afghan border. The Pakistani NSA told him that this is not 2008, we have our own drones now. Foreign Minister stated today “Pakistan does not need your surveillance drones nor will ever allow either kinetic drone operations or American bases”.

US know Pak is the only gateway to Afghanistan. once they leave that door will be closed on them forever. I don't think Pak will support US to perpetually destabilize the region.

At the end of the day the optics significantly matters in a democracy! President Biden's signature foreign-policy achievement so far is the Afgan withdrawal. And, it needs to be proven little better than the Vietnam one, especially now that the Taliban are marching toward Kabul with a new vigor....

Pakistan offered to reset ties, Biden answered Pakistan with complete disregard and disrespect. What the hell did the US expect would be Pakistan's answer to their request for a drone base?

Pak-NSA is right, this isn't 2008.

Biden still has a chance to fix all of this, all he needs to do is pick up the phone and call IK, I doubt he'll do it though, his dumbass advisers are probably the ones who're telling him to treat Pakistan badly.

And that door should closed and locked. US had 20 years. If they could not do shit in 2 decaeds, there is no chance they will do any better with these kind of operations. A regional approach with China, Russia, Iran will be a better way to deal with Afghanistan problem. Any country like India or USA which does not have borders with Afghanistan will be there for their interests only.

Considering Pakistan has so much more of an interest in the stability of the region, the US would be better off asking Pakistan how it could solve the problems the US perceives it faces from the region first.

This is the approach the US has with South Korea vis a vi North Korea, or European NATO partners when it came to the Soviet Union.

This is the approach that worked in the 80s when it came to organizing the response to the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan.

We don't need further enmity with the Afghans and by housing Drones to bomb the Afghans it will exasperate things on the border and increase terrorism within Pakistan.
